Perfect rural escape on village outskirts.
Modern self-contained ground floor separate annex with heating, courtyard garden, off-street parking on quiet outskirts of the village, just 5 minutes from Sherborne. Light, airy living/dining area, kitchen (all mod-cons), bedroom with twin beds, bedside tables with drawers, hanging and suitcase racks, shower room with loo and basin. A compact but beautifully formed space, ideal for short of extended breaks, well-positioned for visiting other parts of the West Country. Dogs welcome. Our annex is a converted outside office and garage and we have taken advantage of every bit of space! Storage is at a premium! It has everything that you need for a relaxing break on the outskirts of a Somerset village, right next to the river Gasgoigne, which flows through our garden. The courtyard garden is next to the road so you will see and be seen by lots of dog-walkers! We have erected some willow screens to afford a little more more privacy. Third bed would be an air mattress in the living area. We also let out our guest room (in the main house), so if you need more accommodation, why not book that as well? Onsite parking. Key-safe for if you are arriving late at night or for if we can’t be here to welcome you. A Co-op, 2 pubs, a butcher, a pharmacist, a newsagent and a chippy are all 10-15 minutes' walk from the property. Lovely countryside walks are on the doorstep and we can give you guides to suggested walks to help you to get to know the area. We will be here to welcome you when you arrive and to help with any immediate needs. There is likely to be someone at home most of the time during your stay but we cannot guarantee that there will always be someone here during the day to help if you have queries. Milborne Port is a quiet village with a lot of its own interesting history just a five minute drive from the lovely abbey town of Sherborne. Whilst it is now mainly residential, there are farms close by and there used to be tanneries and glove factories in the village. Kingsbury Regis was at one time its own entity and most of the old buildings in this area are associated with its farming past. There are two pubs in the village, a fabulous new haute cuisine restaurant called The Clockspire, a Co-operative supermarket, a fish and chip shop and restaurant, a chemist, a newsagent, a petrol station that is home to the Post Office, a doctors' surgery and a real butcher! All are within 5-15 minutes' walk. There are buses to local towns and villages. The closest railway stations are in Sherborne and Templecombe, both on the Exeter-Waterloo line (South West trains). Tea, coffee, milk and a few biscuits provided on arrival. We love dogs and are happy for you to bring yours but please don't let them on the sofa or beds, and do clear up after them! The space is fenced so is secure, unless your dog can jump a metre. Small dogs are totally safe. Our 2 dogs are very excitable and there will be a bit of barking when you arrive. The tv is a wi-if tv with access to most but not all of the main channels; some programmes can be watched live but others not. Pots of mint and rosemary in the courtyard garden for your use; sage and bay at the bottom of the garden. Down the road is a large laundry unit and we can sometimes hear it in operation but it is not intrusive. Note that we have the type of high-chair which is a little seat that attaches to the end of the table; it is not a piece of furniture in itself. Please respect the general peacefulness of the area when in the courtyard garden. Not a place for wild partying and loud music!
