This warm, beautiful old house sits right outside the town of Kothamangalam and is conveniently on the way to Munnar from Cochin. it is also close to the famous Thattekad Bird Sanctuary. Nidra means rest or seep in Malayalam. Among close family and friends, our house has been popularly known as the ‘hibernation zone’: Our home is the perfect escape from urban chaos offering lush green surroundings, peaceful silence and great food to wind down. Our home is situated within a 20-acre mixed plantation consisting of rubber, coconut, cocoa, nutmeg, pepper, coffee, teak trees, etc. You can laze around the house while you listen to birds and farm animals go about their daily business in the distance. You can also venture out around the property, discover the different things we grow here or even do some bird watching of your own. We are very happy to organize trail walks through the property and treks around the area. Being the foodies that we are, you can look forward to some delicious homemade local cuisine while you are here. Breakfast is complimentary. We serve lunch and dinner at reasonable rates. Whilst my mother cooks great authentic Kerala meals which is what we usually serve, you can request for other simple Indian dishes or an English breakfast, a salad, or some pasta if you’d prefer that. For our daily meals, we grow most of our vegetables here and our spices are either locally sourced or from within the property itself. We’ve let out two single bedrooms and one double bedroom on the ground floor to guests. The one you see in this listing has a double bed with an en-suite bathroom. The room has an AC installed and is available to use it for Rs 400/ per night. The ground floor also includes a drawing room and sit-out area which is open to guests. The first floor of the house includes a quaint space to watch TV, a reading area, a balcony and a terrace also open for use. The balcony on top and the sit out area on the ground floor overlooks the entire property and is an ideal spot to read a book, or enjoy your evening chai ( especially during the monsoons). Breakfast is usually served on the sit-out area upstairs . Lunch and dinner is served at the main dining hall. The family usually occupies the living room and kitchen on the ground floor and their own rooms. The family lives here, so you ‘ll definitely see us around. The interaction will be as you prefer. We can completely understand the need to be your own. I personally love hosting people and enjoy conversations and being hands on. For those who are interested, we would be happy to give you the experience of staying with a Malayali family in a rural neighborhood. o Within the village: Three peaks in locality from where you can catch a great sunrise.
