Oenggaut Beach Hut

Situated in the very friendly village of Oenggaut on the West coast of Rote Island. Our family friendly beachfront huts are on the edge of the beautiful white sands of Nemberala Beach. When you're done chilling with a book on the front balcony you can move across to the pool area and freshen up with a few laps and maybe a cold Bintang while the sun sets. The legendary T-Land surf break is approximately 2km north so if you're keen for a wave we'll have you sorted. The bungalow has two double bunks at the rear with a queen sized bed in the front room. All beds are draped with mosquito nets for that cozy tropical ambience, although there are very few mosquitos on the island. The front balcony has two inbuilt large seats that double as daybeds to lounge around on. This sandstone built bungalow has an authentic grass roof which keeps the inside temperature around 10 degrees cooler. Stepping out off the kids room at the back is a stone bathroom with vanity shower and toilet facilities. The shower is at island temperature as we are doing our best to remain eco friendly by consuming as little energy as possible. We can provide you with motor scooters in order to explore all that Rote has to offer. Explore the outer islands and take in some game fishing while you're there on our twin outboard 7.6m fibreglass boat, the Kura Kura. #Note that our boat is available during the dry season months from April through to November. We have stand up paddle boards and surfboards for those who choose not to travel on flights with them. Also available are masks/fins to check out the underwater life. We have onsite staff between the hours of 8am and 8pm. Outside of these hours you can contact us by phone if needed. Lonely Planets view on Rote: A slender, rain-starved limestone jewel with powdery white-sand beaches and epic surf, Rote floats southwest of West Timor, but has an identity of its own. For tourists it’s all about the surf, which can be gentle enough for beginners and wild enough for experts. Ba’a, Rote’s commercial centre, is a sleepy port town on the west coast where fast ferry and flights land, but people don't tend to linger. Stunning Pantai Nemberala is home to the world-renowned T-Land break, and there are dozens of hidden beaches to the south and north. To find them you’ll roll through villages, over natural limestone bridges and through undulating savannah that turns from green in the December to March wet season to gold in the dry season, which is also when offshore winds fold swells into barrels. Don’t overlook the tiny offshore islands where you can find gorgeous ikat, turquoise bays and more surf. Our huts are located in Oenggaut Village: The people of Oenggaut are friendly and helpful. Rote is a predominantly Christian island, you're likely to be invited along to one of the Sunday services in one of the many churches here. You will easily make lifelong friends with many of the community. Rote Island is 500km North West of the Australian coast and is the closest Indonesian Island to Australia. It sits south west of the main Island of Timor. This bungalow is uniquely positioned in the most beautiful area of the Island, with the famous white sandy coastline of Nemberala/Oenggaut beach and its crystal clear water and spectacular reef right on your doorstep. This location ensures peaceful bliss away from the hustle and bustle. Although hot and tropical (24-30° C/75-88° F), Rote Island is much dryer than the Indonesian Islands to the north which means fewer mosquitos and the ability to enjoy the area without being drenched in perspiration. Ride a moped scooter around Rote, explore to your hearts content. Small Honda scooters available at $8-10 per day. There are a variety of restaurants available on this rapidly growing tourism gem so you can try them out or simply advise our staff if you would like to enjoy their cooking. We can hook you up with fishing charters or scuba diving expeditions. To get to Rote, the usual route is via Bali to Kupang using Garuda Airlines. From Kupang you can book via Lion or Wings Air for the 20 minute flight down from here.
