Naxos Galanado: living in a typical village
Living in a small town on the island Naxos. Away from the tourist crowds, 4 km from Chora Naxos and the most beautiful beaches, this house is the perfect retreat for long and relaxing holidays, while discovering one of the most beautiful islands of the Cyclades. Former tax collectors house, situated on top of the village square, the complex consists of a main house (kitchen, living room, bedroom) and two smaller cubic entities, which contain a solitaire bedroom and a generous bathroom. The doors open into a covered yard, cooled by the wind on hot summer days, and ideal for a siesta, late lunch or a reception. Beneath the bathroom lies the lower yard, with plants and a cold shower, when coming back from the beaches. The building complex allows community and retreat at the same time. The main house can be entered either by the kitchen entrance in the upper yard, or by the small entrance on the village square. The two cubic buildings containing a bedroom and the bathroom and have their seperate entrances. All entrances open with the same key. I do not live in Naxos, but a person on the island is taking care of the house. The village of Galanado is in only 4 km distance fom the capital Chora, and another 4 km to the south are the most popular beaches Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka. A grocery store / café / post office in the heart of the village offers a range of products for urgent needs, and wonderful tasty souvlaki on Saturdays. The road that leads from the capital Chora to Galanado continues up to the mountains, to wonderful Chalki, to Filoti (second biggest town of the island) and majestic Apeiranthos. From there the beautiful and less popular beaches of the eastern coast are accessible. There is a public transport (buses) and a busstation in Galanado, in front of the grocery shop. It is recommended to rent a car, quat or bike, to explore the beautiful Island and to have easier access to beaches.
