Quirky tin cottage near the Mendip Hills
Our cottage is a quirky wooden framed, tin clad cottage, sitting on the banks of a stream, next to our house. Although small it feels much bigger with a fully equipped kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. It can sleep 4 people with the use of the sofa bed. It features a wood burning stove, (it also has central heating ;-)), a gorgeous mural across one wall, a veranda for sitting and watching the world go by, oh and it also has full WiFi, smart TV and sound system if this all sounds a little rustic. Although small it has a beautifully spacious feel with the verandah making it feel even bigger. The entire back wall is covered by a mural of trees painted by a local artist. Enjoy cosy winter evenings by the wood burning stove or sunny summer ones swinging in the hammock on the verandah. For the more technologically minded the cottage has full wifi, a smart tv and bluetooth soundbar. One thing to bear in mind is there is no mobile signal in the village, so if you want to get away from the rat race then you won't be disturbed :) The cottage was built by ourselves from reclaimed timber, everything from the pine cladding to the nifty mobile charging point was built by hand. We have had a lot of fun sourcing vintage and retro items from far and wide, the bedroom curtains were found in a street market in Madrid. The woodburner was made by a little company in Caerphilly. We built the cottage in our own garden with our own hands and loved doing it, not everything is perfectly made but we have tried our very best to make Burnby Cottage a very special place to stay. There is a parking space for you to use. If you have an electric vehicle and want to plug it in just give us a shout and you can have space on the drive next to an outside electric socket. The cottage has a small secure area outside ( no grass unfortunately ) but you can make use of our field if you bring your dog. This is accessed from the road. There are numerous walks right on our doorstep, just ask and we can direct you. The nearest shop is in Blagdon which is a few minutes drive away. The award winning Alvis farm shop is the other end of our back lane. The cottage is in our private garden next to our family home and we are available to answer any queries, show you how things work or just to have a chat. You may have to put up with being greeted very enthusiastically by our mad dog or watch a variety of grandchildren chase her round the garden. Bristol Airport is only ten minutes away and has very good taxi services. If we are available we may be able to drop you off or pick you up for a pre arranged fee. Situated in the village with walking, riding, cycling, caving, climbing, fishing all within 5 to ten minutes. Walk from the cottage through the woods to Blagdon Lake. For the more adventurous Burrington Combe in the Mendip Hills with it's caves and climbing are only ten minutes drive. Or you might like to cycle through the lanes to Sandford and explore the Strawberry Line which will take you through stunning countryside all the way into Cheddar. We are close to Bristol, Bath and the lovely cathedral city of Wells. The village is very quiet but there are numerous pubs within a 5 minute drive. If you want some excitement you may be able to persuade Charlie to take you caving in the Mendip Hills or if shopping is your thing then Helen runs a vintage and retro stall at the Cheddar car boot sale. We are out in the country, surrounded by hills, horses, cows, sheep, tractors but unfortunately not by buses or trains. You will have to rely on your own transport, be that car, cycle or shanks pony. The airport which is only ten minutes away by car has a very regular bus service and cars can be hired. If you want to borrow a bicycle then that can probably be arranged. If you have 4 people staying then please be aware that the bathroom and toilet are accessed through the bedroom
