Puddleduck Cottage in the Lake District
18th century Puddleduck is part of a terrace of stone cottages . It has all the conveniences for a family holiday exploring the English Lake District. A cosy sitting dining room with woodburning stove it is a great place to return to after a bracing walk on Lakeland Fells. There is a well equipped kitchen to prepare food or the Royal Oak pub is a five minute walk. In a rural setting, but easy reach of a supermarket, it is an excellent base for the adventurous or just a place to relax and unwind. The two and three story parts of the cottage probably date from the 18th and 19th Centuries respectively. Originally 3 cottages they have undergone extensive alteration over the years with all but one of the fireplaces blocked in and two staircases removed. The beams in the bedrooms date back many years, as the woodworm testifies, but all the other woodwork is new. Much of the furniture was manufactured from reclaimed pine from Lancashire cotton mills. The cottage is very much our home and used frequently by us when we can escape from work. The private parking space next to the cottage is to small except for drop off. The pub opposite is currently closed and guests can park in the large car park opposite the cottage. The cottage is looked after by the housekeeper and a gardener. Guest enter using a key provided in a security cabinet. The cottage is in a semi-rural location and whilst used by us on a regular basis is let as a holiday cottage. The housekeeper and gardener keep the cottage clean and tidy but are not normally around for guests. The neighbours to the right of the cottage are permanent residents and are often happy to talk to guests. The Lake District is a unique mountain and lakeland area in England. There is a bus stop opposite the front door, but this is a rural area, it stops infrequently and has a limited route - you really need a car to explore the area, though Wainwright did manage using the bus service some time ago. Our cottage is pet friendly but limited to one dog only
