The deep green and brown yurt is our most secluded yurt, hard to see against the backdrop of oak and hawthorn trees. It is set up on a wooden deck with tables and benches for eating outside and a campfire nearby. It is lined with wool serge and cotton throughout and the floor is covered in carpets and rugs with a double bed and big armchair. It also has solar lighting in addition to the candle lanterns and its own compost ig-loo behind it. The yurt frame itself is made here in our workshop from coppiced ash with wiggly poles reaching up to the overhead wheel with a clear window to the sky. Lanterns, suspended from the roof poles, cast a warm glow and beautiful shadows in the evenings. There is a fire pit and barbecue outside and a wood burning stove inside and a hammock swinging in the trees nearby. Bathroom Yurt The bathroom yurt is a short stroll away from each yurt and is on a pine wooden base with rugs on the floor. The specially designed Coromandel wood burning water heater provides hot water straight into the roll top bath . It may take a little longer, but lying in the bath with the wood burner crackling away you can look up and see the trees and sky above you. Shared Facilities The bathroom yurt and the solar shower is shared between the three yurts. In (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) our new sauna will be ready. Solar Shower: The solar shower is built in the same style as our ig-loos (see below). It is glazed on one side so while it is still totally private there is a great view out onto a hedgerow of moss, ferns and twisted hawthorn branches. Water is heated by the sun or by an immersion heater for days when the sun doesn't shine. Toilets: Each yurt has its own compost toilet nearby, housed in one our home designed Ig-loos with a big, beautiful beech wood seat. Solar power We have a solar photovoltaic panel for the Yurts. It provides low level lighting but useful for the darker ends of the season and for preparing food in the evening. Site Facilities The holding has 3 yurts each with real beds, wood-burning stove and its own cooking facilities. Cool boxes and ice packs provided to keep food and drinks cool. Outside each yurt there's a firepit, barbecue and picnic table as well as a compost toilet. Shared solar shower and a bathroom yurt, with hot water supplied by a specially designed wood-burning water-heating stove. Washing machine and dryer for use if needed. Recycling and washing up facilities. Tree swing, hammocks, slack line and den-building materials in the woods. There are no cars on site so wheelbarrows are provided to carry bags the short distance to the yurts. Sessions in fire lighting and other bushcraft skills, run by a fully qualified instructor, can be booked separately. There is a hammock in the trees and some useful sticks and tarps for some family den building. With burning log fires and big open skies on the edge of Bodmin Moor the yurts are in a beautiful spot. The river flows in the valley below and the moors lie behind. The views of North Cornwall stretch as far as the sea. Cornish Yurt Holidays is a small family owned business based at Sunnybank Farm, a smallholding of 37 acres stretching from the top of the hill to the sheltered banks of the river Camel below. We started the business in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) with only one yurt and since then have grown modestly, maintaining a healthy balance between what we do and the natural environment. This low impact but maximum comfort approach has defined Cornish Yurt Holidays as one of the most environmentally friendly sites of this kind. The holding supports a handful of traditional Hereford cows, and a grey Shire horse called Moose who used to pull logs out of the woods, before she recently retired. The land is a mixture of pasture, heathland and woodland and has been managed to maximise biodiversity and the wildlife that lives here. The discovery of the rare Pearl Bordered Fritillary butterfly has led to special conservation measures to enhance and protect the habitat to support their survival. With burning log fires and big open skies on the edge of Bodmin Moor the yurts are in a beautiful spot. The river flows in the valley below and the moors lie behind. The views of North Cornwall stretch as far as the sea. Each Yurt (made here at Yurtworks) is set up on a deck in their own secluded patch. Camp fires, barbecues, den making stuff and hammocks help you create your own encampment against a backdrop of gnarly old oaks. A much loved natural heartland with badgers, foxes, otters, roe deer and some very beautiful butterflies. The Yurts are on the edge of the village, a 10 minute walk to the shop and the pub and only a half hour drive to the north coast. The village stretches out along the granite shoulder of Bodmin moor. Below it runs the River Camel or "crooked " river as it flows south before turning sharply towards the sea in the west. Across the valley, farmland reaches all the way to the Atlantic with the lights of Wadebridge and neighbouring villages, visible at night.
