Glas Eilean View, Dornie

Glas Eilean View is a lovely 2 bed semi detached house in the beautiful village of Dornie with views across the bridge and the lochs to the Cullins of Skye and the wildlife on the shore including oyster catchers, otters & herons. It is less than a 5 minute walk from the world-famous Eilean Donan Castle, the most photographed castle in Scotland, if not the world! With the Skye bridge nearby, it really is an excellent base to explore Skye & Lochalsh. Fully updated in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , we’ve endeavoured to make the cottage as comfortable as possible for our guests with good quality fixtures and fittings, hotel quality bedding, luxurious feather pillows (anti allergy pillows available) Smart TV with Netflix, fast Wi-fi, comfy reclining sofas, Bluetooth speaker, Nespresso coffee machine and a well equipped kitchen with a freezer in the utility area. Gated private parking and secure shed storage for up to 4 bicycles at the back of the house with a drying line and outdoor hose. In the back utility area there is a heated drying room with a drying rack for your outdoor gear (for the wetter days!) when you return from a cycle or the many walks and Munro’s in the area. The house has central heating and an Aga multi fuel stove in the lounge with a starter supply of smokeless fuel to keep you cosy on the cooler evenings. There is an enclosed garden area with a picnic table overlooking the Castle and loch. Whole house and garden The house is self check in but we live just 5 minutes away so will be available to meet our guests and give advice on the area and anything else we can help you with. We want Glas Eilean to be your home from home but due to the ongoing Covid situation we have had to temporarily remove a few of the more homely touches like toiletries and books/games/DVDs so anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable then please just ask. The Dornie hotel and the Clachan bar are less than a 5 minute walk away. Both offer bar meals and the hotel also has a seafood restaurant. We love the Clachan and highly recommend it to our guests. (Both places are very popular so best to book) The closest shops are a Spar in Balmacara and Inverinate Petrol station. Both are really well stocked with a selection of quality butcher meat and Asher’s bakery goods. The Old Schoolhouse in Dornie is a 5 minute walk away and had a gift/coffee shop. Eilean Donan castle have a good quality takeaway called ‘Heilan Scran’ with a varied menu. Across the Dornie bridge in Ardelve, Manuelas Wee Bakery sells delicious handmade bread, cakes, handmade pizzas at Pizza Jo’s, and their own range of award winning Gin. It’s Just a 10 minute walk if you are tasting the gin! It’s worth a visit just to see the fairytale houses. There is a bus stop a 5 minute walk from the house with connections East and West but I’d recommend a car to get out and explore Skye & Lochalsh. Kyle taxis also do car hire. There is a train station at Kyle of Lochalsh 8 miles from the house. This is the Kyle line which is one of the worlds most scenic rail journeys from Kyle on the west to Inverness on the East. Dornie is a small former fishing village with a population of approx 360. It is situated by Eilean Donan Castle near the meeting point of Loch Duich, Loch Alsh and Loch Long. The A87, the main road to Skye, passes just outside the village offering easy access to Skye, Plockton, Applecross and Glenelg. The immediate area offers excellent outdoors activities including the Five Sisters of Kintail and the Falls of Glomach. The house is strictly no smoking and we do not accept pets.
