Under Folly Cottage-Mow Cop. Cheshire.

A spacious, comfortable holiday home on the Cheshire side of the small (steep) hillside village of Mow Cop on the Cheshire/Staffordshire border. With ample space for six guests plus baby. We are the perfect base to enjoy the many hiking, cycling and sight-seeing opportunities available in the surrounding area. Ideally situated if you want to get away from everything. The house comprises GROUND FLOOR Fully kitted out kitchen/diner. Living room to relax in after a day out with blankets and games. Smart TV with TV apps such as Netflix, that you can log in to. FIRST FLOOR - rooms within pitch of roof. Principle Bedroom with Super King size bed (can be turned into 2 x Singles on request when booking ) and cot (120 x 60). Bathroom with WC, sink and bath with shower over. All bedrooms come with a dressing tables, hairdryer and make-up remover. If you are visiting with children - High Chairs , Stair Gates, Bed Rails and Travel Cot (in addition to Cot in Principle Bedroom) are available to request. Outside, we have a lovely decked patio with dining area, (there are steps on the patio and it is open to the side of the house with no gates). Space for two cars on the front driveway, we cannot accommodate large Vans, trailers or horseboxes. The drive is at an angle - it’s best to reverse on it. Low cars may prefer to park on the road. There is a 13Amp weather proof socket ideal for charging electric vehicles if you bring your own hookup cable etc - please let me know if you need this switched on. As all vehicles are different we are not able to put a cost to this extra and would appreciate if you left cash to cover the electricity used - 25p per kWh. The cottage is ideally situated at the foot of Mow Cop Castle (an 18th century ‘folly’ owned by the National Trust and giving our cottage its name). The castle is a short walk (steep) from the front door and commands 360° views over seven counties (Cheshire, Lancashire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Shropshire, Flintshire and Denbighshire). The view from the cottage itself is equally impressive – with the folly on one side and making the most of its hillside location it has panoramic views over the Cheshire plains from the other side. Milk can be bought direct from Halton Farm. - The Milk Shack. They sell both raw and pasteurised milk from refrigerated vending machines - Chance Hall Farm, Chance Hall Lane, Moreton, CW12 4TL. Cuttleford Farm Shop is an ideal place to buy your veg, some home grown. Cuttleford Farm, Newcastle Road, Moreton, CW12 4SD. The Ash Inn (ST7 4NE) is only a 10 minute walk (downhill) it serves great meals and often has entertainment. It is a steep walk back. Very willing to answer questions or give you your own space. Mow Cop sits on the edge of the Gritstone Trail and is a short distance from the Peak District and many other hiking routes in the area. Cyclists will also love being literally next door to the famous ‘Killer Mile’ (#36 on Strava’s top 100 climbs). We are very lucky to have a brand new Pump Park in Kidsgrove only 2 miles away. In close proximity (in some cases visible from the cottage!) are some of the best tourist destinations in the region. Nearby National Trust properties include Mow Cop Folly, Little Moreton Hall, Biddulph Grange, Quarry Bank, Hare Hill and Nether Alderley Mill. The beautiful Cheshire countryside can be explored at Alderley Edge, Tatton Park, Dunham Massey and Lyme Park. Astbury Mere is worth a visit and ideal to walk or run round (Congleton Parkrun - 9am Saturday mornings). Unesco World Heritage site Jodrell Bank is only a 20 minute drive away. For a taste of Staffordshire’s pottery heritage, it is only a short drive to the Wedgewood, Emma Bridgewater, Churchill, Spode and Portmeirion factories. Other fantastic places to visit include Chester, Chester Zoo, Beeston Castle, Peckforton Hills, Trentham Gardens and Trentham Monkey World. Alton Towers is only 45 minutes drive from the cottage. Gullivers World Warrington is only 45 minute drive away . Soft Play. - Castaway Congleton is an ideal place to tire out the little ones. Affinity Outlet Staffordshire is a 10 minute drive with Nike, M&S, Clarks, Denby,Next & plenty of other outlet shops all undercover, plus a Costa. Intu Potteries is 20 minutes away and offers a wide variety of shops aswell as Cineworld and plenty of places to get something to eat. Biddulph is very close and home to up in arms Folk Club who hold regular gigs throughout the year. A car is pretty much essential. There are no bus links to Mow Cop. The nearest train station is at Kidsgrove approx 3 miles away. Kidsgrove is on the main Crewe/Stoke-on-Trent line. Kidsgrove is much easier to be picked up from by family or friends than either Crewe or SOT. Crewe is approx 12.5 miles away Stoke is approx 10 miles away.
