Gold Hill Cottage Coach House
The Coach House at Gold Hill Cottage is a beautifully converted apartment right at the foot of iconic Gold Hill. It is comfortable, spacious, stylish and light with pictures, pottery and plants adding lots of character. The kitchen is well equipped and there are pubs and restaurants with takeaways nearby. The Coach House is tucked away in a quiet location with lovely views over gardens and countryside. Shaftesbury centre, with a good choice of shops and views, is just at the top of Gold Hill. At the top of a flight of stairs there is a light and airy room with good kitchen facilities at one end and a cosy seating area with a very comfortable large sofa, chair and TV ( including Netflix) at the other. On the same floor there is a double bedroom (with room for a travel cot) with a luxurious king size bed , and plenty of books, maps, games and a wonderful view to enhance your stay. With a wood burner for winter and a balcony for summer and shared use of a large garden, this apartment is perfect for all seasons. You also have sole access to a washing machine with dryer and there is even a table tennis table downstairs which you are welcome to use! The flat is completely private for our guests, the garden and terrace are shared but we tend to leave them for our guests. The washing machine and dryer are for the use of the guests only. We live in the adjacent Gold Hill Cottage which has been our family home for 25 years. You will have complete privacy, but we're on hand to provide advice about local facilities, walks and longer excursions if you'd like it. There is also a guide in the flat to all the local amenities and attractions. St James's Street is a lovely street of old cottages so from the apartment you can look up Gold Hill or along the street. There are lots of interesting shops, eateries and sights in Shaftesbury in addition to the famous 'Hovis hill'. We love walking, and can give you great advice about local walks in the beautiful hills and countryside of Dorset and Wiltshire. We are ten minutes from Gillingham station, with frequent trains to London two hours away. There is plenty of free parking on the quiet street next to the house. Spectacular seaside and the Jurassic Coast are less than an hour away by car. Bath, Salisbury, Sherborne, Frome and Bruton (including Hauser and Wirth for keen art fans) with lots of enticing sights are also easily accessible and make a perfect day out. Stonehenge , Longleat Safari Park, Wardour Castle, Wilton House, Kingston Lacy, Stourhead House and Gardens, the Larmer Tree Gardens, and Corfe Castle are all also less than an hour away.
