Unique detached 19th century lodge, within secluded grounds, bounded by forests and close to unspoilt beaches. At the end of a short (rough!) unmade track, this idyllic hideaway is a private and peaceful retreat, yet only 2 miles from shops, pubs. The cottage has views of the rolling hills of Galloway has an enclosed terraced garden to the back and a woodland garden to the front with a small burn and a wildlife pond (work in progress!). To help you enjoy your stay, books, local maps and information, games and toys are provided. A haven for wildlife, the cottage is ideally situated for walking and cycling. Walks and cycle trails, which lead through the forest and down to the coast, are literally on your doorstep! Cycle hire in nearby Gatehouse of Fleet. Large sandy beach at Sandgreen and Carrick, with its rock pools, nearby, and golf, riding, water sports on Loch Ken, fishing (lake and sea), lal within easy reach. The track in front of the house is sometimes used by walkers, cyclists and occasionally horse riders. Guests have access to the entire house and grounds. The only neighbours are sheep, deer, red squirrels and wildlife! The short road leading to the cottage is along a rough unmade track, which does have water puddles in rainy times snd can seem daunting. However, it is NOT as bad as it looks! Just go slowly. You do not need a four wheel drive. Keys to be collected from and returned to key safe at property. The cottage will be cleaned and prepared for you before you arrive. The telephone number of the caretaker will be given to you in case of any help you may need when you are at the cottage. Inside the cottage you will find maps, guide books, tourist information and local information, as well as many books on local history and by local authors. Toys, board games and puzzles are kept in a trunk in the conservatory. Walks right on doorstep; the cottage is on National Cycle route 7. Beautiful sandy and pebble beaches within 5 minutes drive or 15 minutes cycle ride. Parking for two cars on the property. PLEASE NOTE CHRISTMAS, NEW YEAR, and all of MAY - end of OCTOBER - minimum 7 nights a week, starting Saturdays. Accommodation for 4/6 on two floors: Ground Floor: Lounge/dining room with cosy open fire and a sofa bed (sleeps 2 but please bring own duvet and linen - pillows are provided); Kitchen; Conservatory with views of the garden; 1 double bedroom; 1 Bathroom (mixer tap with cast iron roll top bath - NO SHOWER!). First Floor: 1 Twin bedroom with desk.
