Luxury 3 bed Dorset cottage with stunning views
The Garden Cottage is a luxury three bedroom cottage on Mapperton Estate in West Dorset, with unrivalled views over spectacular Mapperton Gardens and the tumbling countryside beyond. The cottage has a master suite, with an en suite bathroom; a second double room with super king or twin beds, and a single room. There is also an upstairs shower room, fully equipped kitchen and utility room. The house sleeps five comfortably, or six including a pull-out mattress. Garden Cottage is located 100m south of Mapperton House, home to the Earl and Countess of Sandwich. It overlooks Mapperton Gardens which you are free to explore on open days. There are numerous footpaths for long or shorter walks around the Estate in deepest unspoiled Dorset countryside. The cottage has been recently redecorated by a top interior designer, and is furnished with a mixture of carefully selected antiques, as well as tasteful & comfortable modern furniture. The bed linen is thick Egyptian cotton, with down pillows and duvets. Anti-allergy materials are also available upon request. The cottage is heated by the Estate's biomass boiler system, providing environmentally-friendly warmth on chillier days. There is a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Garden Cottage has its own garden with outdoor seating in the summer. The cottage and its garden are entirely yours. However please note that access to Mapperton Gardens is only available during opening hours, and you will receive 6 vouchers for free entry. A member of the Estate staff will be available to answer any questions during your stay. Mapperton is a small hamlet centred around Mapperton House, winner of the Country Life award for Britain's finest Manor House. Mapperton House and Gardens are open from March to October, and have been the location for several TV and feature films, most recently Far From the Madding Crowd in 2015, starring Carey Mulligan. Mapperton is located 2 miles from the picturesque market town of Beaminster, and 6 miles from arty and vibrant Bridport. Two of Dorset's finest restaurants are in Beaminster, Brassica and the more recently opened Ollerod. The coast is only fifteen minutes away, with some of England's most spectacular cliff walks starting in West Bay, location for the acclaimed BBC production Broadchurch. You can also have lunch or tea at our Sawmill Cafe, open Sunday to Thursday, March to October. There is parking for two cars at the cottage. There will be some basic food items ready for your arrival, as well as some local wine and honey. Garden Cottage is located 100m from Mapperton House which is open to the public for visitors and occasional weddings. While Garden Cottage faces south away from visitor activity, guests should be aware that this is a working country estate. This includes shooting during the shooting season (Oct to Jan), weddings (on some Saturdays) and visitors to the house & gardens (Mar to Oct). The cottage however is away from these activities and should experience minimal, if any, disturbance. The beds in the master suite and double room can be set up as either two singles or one super king. Garden Cottage is situated on a slope with a high wall on one side. This makes the garden unsuitable for unsupervised children. Please also note that Mapperton Gardens (below the house) have water features and pools which again are unsafe for unsupervised children. Dogs are allowed but must be kept downstairs. There will be an extra £25 pet cleaning charge, payable upon arrival. Please note that checkin is now after 5pm and checkout is by 9am to allow extra time for COVID secure deep cleaning.
