Charming restored stone built cottage near Cognac in a small village setting in the hamlet of Le Roty. It provides traditional two bedroom cottage living with a huge 18th century fireplace. Newly tiled bathroom and shower area. The aim is to provide a simple and peaceful retreat for those wishing to escape from modern life. As there is no TV or radio supplied, however limited wifi is provided next to the main barn. It is recommended you download films prior to arrival. The gite is only available from Apr - Sept so heating is rarely needed, however firewood is provided to heat the large room early Spring or Autumn if there is a chilly evening. There is a small private garden and gusets are free to roam the extensive gardens which contain many plants and herbs. Many species of birds and butterflies often frequent the gardens. Various deck chairs are available along with bicycles which can give you easy access to local "chemins blanc" tracks and lanes and walks can take you through the local fields and vineyards. We live in the farmhouse, so are available for advice etc, otherwise we intend to let you enjoy your holiday in peace and quiet, apart from us offering you a welcoming aperitif. Visits to the historic and beautiful towns such as La Rochelle, Rochefort, Saintes, Angouleme and of course Cognac are all within driving distance. The coast offers magnificent beaches at Cote Sauvage and the chic resort of Ile de Re are well worth a visit. July sees the famous Cognac Blues Festival along with classical and jazz fesitivals sees the area frequented with many tourists. Angouleme in September is the home of the classic car weekend and for those petrol heads is well worth a visit. Finally, as you know Cognac is produced locally and visits and wine tasting tours are a must to sample along with Pineau des Charentes. A car is essential and these can be rented at airports such as La Rochelle, Limoges, Poitiers and Bordeaux also they can be rented at Angolume TGV Station.
