Southern Italian Hilltown Apartment

The hilltop town of Santa Domenica Talao has amazing views of the sea from the main piazza. The town has a couple restaurants, a bar, a gelateria, ample parking, and some small stores where one can purchase food, drinks, and supplies. Santa Domenica Talao is a 10 minute drive from the seaside town of Scalea where there are more options for restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. Just a short drive up or down the coast, you will find the seaside towns of Maratea, Praia a Mare, Belvedere, and Diamante. Driving inland, you will find yourself in Pollino National Park, where there is great hiking and river rafting. Santa Domenica Talao is the perfect home base to explore the region of Calabria. The apartment is located on the edge of town in the historical center of Santa Domenica Talao, just steps from the main piazza with unobstructed views of Pollino National Park. The entire town of Santa Domenica Talao is within a few minutes walk of the apartment. Inside the apartment you will find everything you need for a comfortable stay. There are two spacious bedrooms, each with a queen size bed and plenty of storage. The bathroom has a large shower (rare in Italy). The beautiful kitchen is complete with stove, oven, fridge, and cooking utensils. The open plan kitchen contains a dining table and small seating area so while one is cooking the others can be nearby. From the balcony in the kitchen there are amazing views of the surrounding countryside. The apartment is the perfect size for a family of four or two couples traveling together. There is very little English spoken here, but the locals are very friendly and happy to help out. The town itself is very quiet and peaceful. Those looking for dance clubs and nightlife will be disappointed here. Those looking for peace and quiet will love the tranquility. There are buses that come through the town and will take you to the larger beach town of Scalea, however it is much more convenient to have a car. There is free parking nearby and everything in the town is within walking distance. The nearest airport is Lamezia Terme, which is about 2 hours to the south. There are trains that can connect you with the beach town of Scalea, located a 10-minute drive from the apartment. It is also possible to arrange for private pick-up from the airport for a fee.
