Puffin Cottage is a cosy former fisherman's cottage full of original features and character, with open fire, original wood panel walls and ceiling beams. The cottage it is nestled rests at the foot of grass-covered cliffs with the sea just yards away in the village of Pennan, made famous by the film Local Hero. The cottage is bursting with character, and is particularly homely with numerous paintings, historical artifacts, overflowing book shelves and various games and DVDs The accommodation comprises an open plan living, dining and kitchen area with open fire on the ground floor. The kitchen is small but functional with everything you should need (no dishwasher) For the fire we have left fuel to get you started. If needed additional Logs and coal are available to buy from local petrol stations in Fraserburgh, Banff or Macduff. There is also a shower room and toilet on the ground floor. Upstairs, the main double bedroom has an electric stove, wood panel walls and TV, and is made complete with a chandelier! There is also a single bedroom. There are further stairs up to a loft space, however we currently use this space for storage. There is wifi and the TV has netflix. In the shed outside there is a washing machine and tumble dryer, there is also a second outside toilet. There is a table and chairs outside in the alley and a further table and chairs on the sea front in the summer (although we store this in the winter to stop it getting washed away!) There is plenty parking on the street All areas apart from loft space I live in Aberdeen, so unlikely to see you however contactable by mobile phone or email The village is situated half way between Fraserburgh and Banff, both have good supermarkets, and Tesco delivers! The closest small shop is New Aberdour (3 miles). The cottage is only a few feet from the sea, where we often see a variety of seabirds, seals and dolphins with occasional sightings of minke whale. There are lovely walks all around with a path from the village over the cliffs to New Aberdour. Other key attractions include: Troop Head RSPB reserve (the only UK mainland nesting gannet colony (incredible in the summer months) Cullykhan Bay - lovely for swimming Millshore - can walk from Pennan at low tide over the rocks - pottery, coffee and ice cream Crovie and Gardenstown - fishing villages with a lovely sea walk between the two Fraserburgh Beach - sandy and good surfing Banff Beach and Sandend Beach offering surf and SUP lessons Macduff - marine aquarium Portsoy - lovely harbour and famous ice cream shop Findlater Castle and Sunnyside beach Cullen - full of quirky shops and lovely beach Bow fiddle rock - meant to be a great spot for wild swimming (when the weather is good!) A car is recommended as there is only a bus once a week (on a Tuesday from Fraserburgh). Other option is taxi from Fraserburgh or Banff. Please be advised that Pennan does not have reception and therefore mobile phones do not work once in the village (maybe not a bad thing!). There is unlimited wireless internet at the property which can be used for all communication purposes as well as the landline in case of emergencies. There is of course also the famous red telephone box. In the winter months Pennan may become inaccessible due to snow and bad weather conditions. We advise you to check the weather forecast before making your journey. Any last minute cancellations due to weather conditions will be fully refunded.
