The Rook's Nest shepherd's hut offers up a unique holiday experience. In a beautiful setting it is a delightful cosy but bright small space. An ideal base for exploring the west of Cornwall. Provided within this compact space is a comfy double bed with proper mattress, seating area, oven and hob, fridge, hot and cold water, bluetooth stereo, TV and woodburner with logs provided. We also have a microbrewery and you are welcome to sample the beer! Snugly placed in a beautiful setting in the grounds of West Cornwall's oldest thatched farmhouse built in 1245. Set above a babbling brook next to St Loy woods it is a great retreat where you can feel close to nature. Often you will hear the hoot of an owl or the chatter of rooks. With a delightful ten minute walk through the St Loy woods, famous for the bluebells in spring, you can enjoy one of West Penwith's most stunning sections of coast. Placed between the historic harbours of Lamorna and Penberth it is in a great location for hiking the coast path. It is only ten minutes by car to Porthcurno where you can enjoy an evening's performance at the Minack theatre with the frequent sight of the local resident pod of bottlenose dolphins swimming across the beautiful Pedn Vounder beach. It is within twenty minutes of Sennen cove, Land's End and the historic tin mining town of St Just. It is also only a stone's throw away from many ancient sites including the Merry Maidens stone circle, Carn Euny and Chysauster. It would ideally suit any outdoor adventurers trekking the coast path, surfers checking out the quieter breaks or cyclists touring the wild and rugged west. With a bbq and picnic bench provided you can make the most of the summer evenings in this beautiful spot. In the winter you can cosy up in front of the wood burner after a wild day on the coast or moors. I mustn't forget to mention the unique turf roofed rustic hobbit hut toilet providing a hot shower too. New, for 2022, we have built a little 'pub' near to the shepherd's hut, which guests are welcome to use. Sam brews his own pilsner and you are very welcome to try it. The pub has a bar, seats, board games, a bigger fridge, and a DVD player with projector if you want to watch films on the big screen. Guests are welcome to use all of the garden. Guests are welcome in the house to use the WiFi. Guests are welcome in the building with the bar. Penny and I (Sam) live in the farmhouse nearby and will usually be available to offer advice and recommendations. I am a keen surfer so will always be happy to lend a board or be a guide. We also have plenty of bicycles if you fancy seeing the locality on two wheels. A very quiet and rural setting in a the tranquil wooded St Loy valley only a mile from the nearest pub and shop in St Buryan. It is a 15 minute drive to Penzance for supermarkets etc. There is just the one double bed but the sofa does double up as a small cot bed for a little one. If you fancy a visit as a bigger group, friends could pitch their tents in the large garden (we also have a tent available to borrow). There is also a large caravan to stay in. Be aware that although the bed in the shepherd's hut comes with a good quality proper mattress, the access may not be suitable for more elderly guests or those with limited mobility. Also, there is limited space in the hut. We provide a little bottle of milk in the fridge for when you arrive. We always have dairy-free milk available too, just ask for this when you book. Although we love dogs, we have found that some breeds just shed too many hairs which is a nightmare for cleaning the hut! Certain dogs would be ok though - just ask if you would like to bring a furry friend.
