Ghoirtein Yurt
New to airbnb our Yurt - we initially put this up for our family and grandchildren when they visit, but between times we are happy to let it out. The Yurt is tastefully and comfortably furnished with a kingsize bed, an area to prepare breakfast etc. and a seating area. In the winter months we would light the woodburning stove for our guests arrival as this is the only form of heating. To add to your comfort The Yurt has an ensuite bathroom with shower, hot water and electricity. During the summer you can BBQ on the decking over looking the lochum. (Bring a disposable BBQ with you). If you are lucky you might spot a Kingfisher although we do discourage Herons as they pinch our fish! Other wildlife you may see are Pinemartins, Foxes, Stoats and Weasels, Red Squirrels and lots of birds and bats. The garden where the Yurt is situated and wood which you have access too is a haven for wildlife. Although quite secluded we do have neighbours and sound travels in the glen so we do ask guests not to play music, but to come here to enjoy the peace and tranquility and the birds singing and the owls hooting at night. Our check in times are 5 pm - 8pm. If you wish to check in earlier let me know before 11am on day of arrival as if we go out we might not be back until 5 oclock. If you wish to check in later than 8 pm, again let me know as soon as possible so that we don't worry about you not arriving. Our latest check in would be 10.30. as we then go to bed. Obviously in an emergency i.e. traffic jam or accident we would stay up and wait for you to arrive. Private decking, wood, stream and part of the garden. Also they are welcome to come up to the house if they need something or want advice on where to visit. We are in during the evenings. We would want to greet our guests, show them to the Yurt and once settled in if they need anything they would be welcome to come up to the house to see us. Otherwise we would not bother them, apart from checking on the first morning if everything is OK. Balnain itself does not have any shops. The nearest shops are in Drumnadrochit which is approx. 4 miles drive where you will find a small supermarket, a chemist, post office and numerous gift shops, a pub, and a couple of restaurants and coffee shops. There is also the Lochness Exhibition Centre and an office where you can book boat trips on Lochness - Nessy hunting! About 8 miles drive there is Glen Affric which is considered one of the prettiest Glens in Scotland, there is also Strathglass and Glen Strathfarrar to walk and explore. In Cannick there is a coffee shop - Bog Cotton Cafe run by a friend situated at the Camp Site and in Tomich there is another coffee shop and a Hotel where you can get a bar meal. The small town of Beauly is very pretty and has some interesting, individual shops plus a couple of coffee shops and hotels. As the area is quite remote and public transport is few and far between it would be sensible to come by car or hire a car. We have a carbon monoxide alarm as we have a wood burning stove. If this goes off we advise guests to step outside and let us know if there is a problem.
