An enchanting rustic retreat with vintage artefacts and artworks at every turn, Cobblers Cottage is an alternative to the bland. Formerly a one roomed pub with a micro brewery and cobblers above, this unique and highly characterful semi-detached three storey village house has Tudor origins. Converted in the 1800s to a residential dwelling, it retains a wealth of original features including the 16th Century spiral staircase, oak beams and inglenook fireplace with wood burner. The sister property to Easel Cottage in Wells, The Cobbler’s interior celebrates the natural antiquity of the building combining original decor features and vintage treasures, helping to create an eclectic sense of old-world charm. The Cobblers is a charming old cottage. And, we believe that part of it’s charm is reflected in it’s wonkyness. You’ll find low beams, uneven floors, steep staircases, creeky floorboards, short doorways and a raised step between rooms. You may end up banging your head on a beam at least once during your stay. We’ve done that on several occassions, and when we have, instead of uttering a profanity, we try to say “Oh, cobblers!” Amenities: Lockable bike storage AGA cooker Washer dryer Bed linen and towels included Dishwasher Microwave Shop 2 miles and pubs within walking distance Stunning garden with pergola BBQ Smart TV Wood burning stove Parking for two cars on the driveway with further space available on the road Things to note: Bedrooms – The A-frame ceiling at the top of the house, although charming, has low beams and the access is steep and uneven in places. Please also be aware there are uneven steps in the garden. – We are happy to accept bookings for families with young children, but please note, the cottage has an aga cooker that is continually hot to the touch and two flights of steep stairs. Clearwell itself has the benefit of pubs and restaurants including the Tudor Farmhouse described by Tatler magazine as a ‘culinary oasis’, and a recreation ground. It is situated within easy reach of Monmouth, Chepstow and on the doorstep to the many outstanding outdoor activities offered in the Forest of Dean. Nearby attractions include Clearwell Caves, Go Ape and Puzzlewood.
