Dartmoor on the doorstep - ideal for walkers!
A light and pretty double room with private bath is available at Little Hound, a property in a lovely setting in the heart of the moorland village of South Zeal. South facing, it looks out onto Dartmoor and Cosdon Beacon, one of the highest hills on the moor. It's a great area for walking and is on the Dartmoor Way, Tarka Trail and Trafalgar Way. Guests are welcome to sit in the lovely gardens. We can offer bicycle storage and pick up/drop off for longer walks can be arranged. A light, bright double bedroom with lovely views over farmland, plus a private bath/shower room. We provide cereal bars and fresh fruit, a kettle and selection of teas, and a Senseo coffee machine. There is also a mini-fridge for your use. There are no cooking facilities. Please note - no smoking inside the property, or in the garden. Guests are very welcome to sit in the garden. I work from home, so I am usually around and I'm very happy to suggest walks and lend maps, walking guides etc. or suggest places to eat. South Zeal is an attractive, friendly moorland village. It has two pubs and a well-stocked village shop. The village of Sticklepath, just half a mile away has a village shop and café serving breakfast 6 days a week, plus two further pubs. There's limitless spectacular walking on Dartmoor right from the doorstep. Cawsand Beacon dominates the view and is well worth the climb! The River Taw is nearby and there are delightful, less challenging river walks. Hop in your car to explore other areas of Dartmoor, or the north and south coasts, it's all beautiful! You are only about 15 minutes from the Cornish border too... The nearest main town is Okehampton. It's 4 miles away and has a good range of independent shops, plus 3 supermarkets, a cinema, restaurants, and takeaways. The nearest petrol station is about 2 miles away. Exeter is half an hour's drive. Travelling by car is the best option, but you can reach South Zeal by bus. There are various services from Exeter, Okehampton, Newton Abbot and more. The shop and café in the next village (half a mile) serves breakfast six days a week and we are just 60m from one local pub, and 100m from another! You can walk from the front door onto the moor in about 15 minutes. There are miles and miles to explore - stunning views, lots of wildlife, and plenty of archaeology. If you are planning a walking break, do come prepared! You will need walking boots and waterproof gear. An OS map of the area is also recommended.
