The beach is only four miles away and you are only 15mins walk from the pub, set in the middle of mature woodland. Live life as it should be, enjoy your bath gazing over the tree tops... switch off your mobile, stare at the heavens by the open fire. Unique is an often used word and by definition all things are... or mostly, this is a chance to stay in the middle of the woods... mostly on your own, (there is another yurt space in the woods) a chance to dip below life's radar. The Yurt is a cosy space with one king size double bed, a double day bed and a single fold up. A basket of firewood is provided which should last you a couple days and more can be purchased as and when you need it, doing it this way makes you be aware of what you consume and its impact on the space you are staying in. There is a simple outdoor kitchen with a two ring gas burner and all the utensils you will need to prepare food and simple washing up facilities. Water is collected from a stand pipe close to the yurt, this again helps you be aware of your consumption. There is a flushing composting loo as well... just like home but eco and in the woods! If you have young ish kids, a great book to read whilst you stay is 'My side of the mountain' There is a carpark at the front of the woods and from then on your on foot for a ten minute walk to the yurt site. Be warned this is the rolling Devon countryside and there are hills to walk up (and of course down) in the woods. Around the Yurt site is 'Devon flat'. I will run your bags up and back to the Yurt for you if you need it, otherwise you can borrow a wheel barrow and benefit from the spirit of adventure. When I am working the woods, I will be living a short walk away, when I am off site I can mostly be with you in 20 mins (unless Ive gone to the beach!). If you need any help with Favorite beaches, places to eat, things to see let me know. If you want a bit more of a woodland experience, we can offer a day long family green woodwork stool making course, mail me for more details. Blackawton is a thriving community of about 750 residents, people will talk to you, which is great, some locals drive to the shop because otherwise it can take an hour to 'cross town'. The pub, The George Inn is a good counrty pub and you will be given a warm welcome, they keep great real ale, and serve good pub food. If you have more expensive tastes Dartmouth is a short drive away and offers many excellent gastro experiences...booking at all places is advised. They took our village bus away a couple of years ago and now its a good half hour walk to the bus stop. If you choose to arrive on foot I will pick you up from our nearest train station which is Totnes and drop you back if you need it. If you come by car, our part of Devon is connected by a warren of country lanes which all lead anywhere you want to be, at first they can be a bit daunting but once you realise 20mph is quite fast enough they are great fun. In summer they do get a little busy so when planning a beach trip it can be useful to be early or late... in between can be a bit of a scramble especially towards Bigbury/Bantham/Salcome. You will be staying in a woodland, if it rains It can be muddy, so some solid waterproof footwear (WELLIES) is ESSENTIAL and some Croc type things for mooching round the Yurt site are useful as there is a 'No dirty footware' inside policy. Bring a reasonable range of cloths, it can be chilly at night away from the camp fire. A torch or even better a HEAD TORCH (it gets very dark) is essential, there are no naked flames allowed in the Yurt other that in the lanterns provided...
