Fountain House is a holiday home, built circa 1690, nestled on the High Street of the historic village of Falkland. Enjoy a retreat in a picturesque location with amenities. Comfortable, charming and full of character. Fountain House comfortably sleeps up to six adults and two children. The house has been newly renovated and decorated as of summer 2012. The open plan living/dining area has an exposed stone fireplace and wood burning stove. There is also a lovely private back garden with seating area with a view of the village church and Lomond Hill. Amenities include underfloor heating and electric shower in bathroom, fully equipped kitchen with cooker, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, TV and Broadband Internet, and wardrobes and/or chest of drawers in all four bedrooms. There is convenient parking in front or back of house. Falkland is a quaint village situated at the foot of East Lomond Hill in the heart of the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland. A former royal burgh, Falkland’s unique charm and history are the reason it was the very first conservation village in Scotland. As “Undiscovered Scotland” states, there are few other villages in the country quite so rich in wonderful old buildings. Many houses in Falkland are over 300 years old and 28 buildings are listed with the National Trust. The medieval design of the town is made up of a high street and narrow cross wynds now full of life with traditional shops, restaurants, pubs, hotels and lodges. The most remarkable of the historic buildings is Falkland Palace, only just down the road from Fountain House. Built by James IV and James V between 1450 and 1541, the Palace was a country residence of the Stuart monarchs of Scotland for over 200 years. The twin-towered gatehouse overlooks the High Street at the center of the village. Fountain House sits beside the Bruce Fountain, the church and town square. Falkland is also home to Britain's oldest tennis court built in 1539 and a nine-hole golf course. Falkland Estate offers many forest trails and cycle paths. A swing park for children and a lovely stream is only a few minutes’ walk from Fountain House. Nearest airport: Edinburgh 57 km, Nearest railway: Markinsh 10 km Falkland is also a perfect base for many lovely day trips. A half hour drive will take you to St. Andrews and the charming fishing villages of East Neuk, such as Crail, Elie, Ansthruther and Pittenweem. Edinburgh, Perth, Glasgow and Stirling are under a one-hour drive away. Trains and buses are also easily available from near by Markinsh and Kirkcaldy. Listed on TripAdvisor
