Grand Mississippi River Home - Rest & Relax!
The Lansing House, located at the base of the Black Hawk Bridge in Lansing, Iowa, was built in 1870 by Mississippi River boat captain Jeremiah Turner to take in the beauty of America’s River while withstanding the passing of the years. You will marvel at the craftsmanship as you discover charming touches around every corner… from imported Italian tile and California redwood to a Tiffany glass fish motif chandelier. In 2014, we returned the home to its original green hue while enhancing its Victorian detail, including hand painting over 100 brackets along the roof line. With a light-filled sitting room that looks out on the main channel of America’s River, up-to-date amenities, and grand gathering spaces, the 4-bedroom home provides an ideal space for family reunions, celebrations, or weekend getaways. Full access -- make yourself at home! You will have cell numbers for hosts and for our property manager, our sister who is a professional realtor and lives within 20 miles of the home. Quiet neighborhood in a quiet town, yet big enough to offer a grocery store, great local restaurants, and a few shops. The home sits near the base of the Black Hawk Bridge, named after the Sac Indian chief Black Hawk, which was completed in 1931. Windows run along the front sitting room and grand living room to take in the stunning seasonal views of the main river channel and the neighboring bluffs of Wisconsin. Easy walk to downtown Lansing. The home’s builder, Captain Jeremiah Turner, wrote a book, Memories of a Raft Pilot, about his life on the river. He went on to establish the first button factory in Lansing, making buttons from Mississippi River clam shells. Visitors to the Lansing House will enjoy photos and writings about the Captain and his grand home. This is a non-smoking property. The house does not have central air but 2 window AC units, 1 downstairs and 1 upstairs and 3 standing fans.
