Self-contained apartment in this superb modern stone built house is nestled on the outskirts of the medieval village of Sant Llorenç de la Muga. This is a completely separate ground floor apartment with its own private terrace and spacious lawn. The apartment has one bedroom and a lovely sitting room, a beautiful rose-marble bathroom with shower, and a small bright basic kitchen. Both rooms open onto the broad terrace which extends directly onto the garden lawn belonging to the apartment. Although we don’t have air conditioning, our house is in the pre mountains and the nights are normally cool throughout the summer which keeps the inside of the house cool and comfortable. The main bedroom has a quality orthopaedic double bed. Is provided with a large digital T.V., leather comfy chair, sofa, and a desk. There is free access to Wi-Fi internet. The kitchen includes a mini-fridge, oven-microwave with grill, toaster, kettle, and of course a Dolce Gusto coffee machine, but no cooking hob. There are sun loungers on the lawn and a table and chairs on the terrace for al fresco dining. Bed linen and towels provided. Suitability: Any couple or individual. The owner couple, who are the sole occupants of the rest of the house, are discreet but on hand to tend to guest's needs if requested. Privacy is highly respected and is reflected in the layout of the apartment which has its own separate entrance and is on a different floor from the living space of the owners. The property is situated in the Sant Antoni development of Sant Llorenç which is cradled in a small valley in the pre-Pyrenees, a mere half hour drive from the beaches of the Costa Brava. We are surrounded by pine-covered foothills and are 150 meters from the ancient Sant Antoni stone bridge and hermitage where the crystal clear River Muga forms a big gorgeous natural rocky pool, perfect for swimming, diving or just lazing in the sun. We are a short walk, 10 minutes from the exquisite and beautifully restored fortified medieval village centre of Sant Llorenç de la Muga with its 12th century watchtower on the hill overlooking the valley. This rural region is largely pine-forested, dotted with historic villages and the occasional small farm or orchard. Area of natural beauty of cultural, historical and archaeological interest. River swimming, walking, hiking, rollerblading, mountain biking or motorbiking, birdwatching, fishing (with permit). There are numerous clearly marked established forest and riverside walks. We are within walking distance, 30-40 mins, of a series of lakes formed by the dam at Boadella. These lakes have existed for many years now and have their own isolated beaches and woodlands full of wild life. You can walk for hours in the middle of the tourist season without bumping into a soul. The water is perfectly clear and clean and fantastic to swim in. Picnic areas, historical buildings, hermitages, ancient watchtower, castle, Romanesque church, lovely leafy village square, promenade river walk, adult fitness circuit, football pitch, paved “all weather surface” court. Eight different local bar-restaurants, village general provisions shop and local artist’s studio-shop. We are 20 minute's relaxed drive from the centre of the bustling, up-and-coming town of Figueras, birthplace of painter Salvador Dali, a half hour drive from the beaches and coves of the Costa Brava, and 1 hour 45 minute's drive to beautiful Barcelona (or similar journey time by train). If you fancy a change of language and culture for the day, we are 30 minute's drive from the French border. A car highly recommended as local transport is limited.(Three buses to town a day) Although we don’t have air conditioning, our house is in the pre mountains and the nights are normally cool throughout the summer which keeps the inside of the house cool and comfortable. We are lucky in this as air conditioning is particularly unhealthy and bad for the environment.
