The Caretaker's Cottage and tennis court

Set on over an acre and surrounded by bush, the Caretaker's Cottage is a wonderful place to relax and play. Equipped with indoor and outdoor facilities and 3 bedrooms it's perfect for families and small groups. Play tennis, watch movies, take in the fresh Mountain air or just sit by the fireplace and tune out. Many walking trails of varying lengths and viewing sites of the Jamieson Valley and beyond are just a few steps away. Wentworth Falls village, station and lake are a 5 minute drive. The Caretaker's Cottage is a spacious and inviting home, fully self-contained and family friendly. Set in a huge garden and bush block of over an acre it's a true mountain home with an interesting history dating back to the 1850s. when it was part of the Hordern Estate. The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 rooms with queen beds and the third room with a double bunk and a single bed. All bedrooms have ceiling fans and heaters. The large lounge/ dining area is filled with books, games, jigsaw puzzles, toys, television, keyboard, sound bar and DVD player with a selection of movies and CDs for a bit of nostalgia. The slow combustion fireplace is stocked with firewood to keep you cosy in winter and reverse cycle airconditioning and fans to keep you cool in summer. The kitchen is simple and equipped with the essentials to make your stay comfortable. The large garden is set up with outdoor dining facilities and BBQ, a trampoline for the kids and full size tennis court for your enjoyment. There is ample off road parking on the property close to the house. The "circular" driveway has two entrances and originally used for deliveries to the Hordern estate. You will have access to the cottage and grounds including the tennis court. We are in Sydney but always available by phone if you need to contact us. We also have a local contact person if necessary. The Caretaker's Cottage is tucked away in a secluded neighbourhood on the outskirts of Wentworth Falls. It is surrounded by bush, acreage and national park. The area is steeped in history of human habitation dating back at least 20000 years. The cottage itself has a more recent history, a remnant of the Hordern estate, one of the 19th century grand weekender estates of the Blue Mountains. Within easy walking distance from the house there are spectacular escarpment views and hiking trails of varying lengths to the falls and beyond. The village of Wentworth Falls is nearby. Smaller and quieter than Leura and Katoomba, it offers a range of basic services including post office/newsagency, chemist, butcher and convenience store. Good coffee and eateries, a bakery, a great Asian supermarket, antiques, books and gift shops all add to the charm and allure. A 10 minute drive down the highway Lawson is another interesting village. Smaller again and less touristy than the upper Blue Mountains villages, it has a couple of wonderful cafes, a small well stocked IGA and the Black Cockatoo bakery for the best bread in the Mountains. It also has a family favourite, a picturesque outdoor swimming pool complex and access to several scenic walks and waterfalls off the road most traveled. As the cottage is located on the outskirts of Wentworth Falls it is easier to have a car to get around. If you come by train you will need to take a taxi from Wentworth Falls station as there are no buses to the area. If you want to explore the sights, cafes and shops of the Blue Mountains villages you will find this much easier with your own transport. The Caretaker's Cottage caters for families and small groups. As this is where we go to unwind and restore there is no WiFi. You can hot spot the smart TV to your phone and connect the Bose play bar via Bluetooth. Free Wifi is available at many locations in the Mountains including libraries and cafes . The third bedroom is set up for children and all beds have standard single mattresses so may not suit tall adults. Please note that discounted weekly rates do not apply to Easter and Christmas period. We state that pets are not allowed but please ask. We do make exceptions. There are no boundary fences around the property so please take this into consideration.
