Our eco-friendly lodge is in a pristine mountain setting on 38 acres in Hope Valley, California, one of the most gorgeous natural landscapes in the Sierras. In the winter, we'll bring you to our lodge over the snow in a snowcat! From the lodge you can hike, kayak, fish, bikeride, snowshoe, ski, snowmobile or admire fall colors of the aspens. The Western Suite is the most private and exclusive of our four available rooms, and has a comfortable queen bed and private en suite bathroom with walk-in shower, sink and separate toilet room. It has always been our best guest room, and is the only bedroom on the main floor. Guests often comment on all the stars they see in the sky right from their bed! Our private family-run mountain lodge is eco-friendly, as we generate our power from the sun with battery storage, and heat our water from the sun. All the rooms in our off-grid solar powered rustic lodge/log home are bright and cheery with lots of windows. We can introduce you to amazing alpine lakes and streams and trails nearby for kayaking, fishing, paddle-boarding, hiking or biking. Start the day with a home cooked breakfast each morning before you venture out to enjoy your day’s activities. Our goal is for you to feel refreshed and rejuvenated after your stay here in our mountain lodge. In the winter there is a groomed road/trail for cross country skiing, snowmobiling, showshoing or walking. Or make fresh tracks through our snowy meadows! The lodge is located near South Lake Tahoe and is between two epic ski resorts: 12 miles to Kirkwood Mountain Resort, 23 miles to Heavenly Mountain Resort at South Lake Tahoe. The large high-ceiling great room on the main floor (with massive granite fireplace and mountain views) is an inviting room where you can snuggle up by the fire in the winter, or socialize with other guests. Our large deck is a popular place for guests to drink their morning coffee, watch the sunset over the mountain, or stargaze. We often make a campfire in the cowboy cauldron on our deck during the non-winter months, especially on weekends. We love to interact with our guests, but can give you your space too. It just depends on what you want! We are available to help you understand the area and offer suggestions on what you can see or do, and we can tell you what restaurants we recommend too. Our lodge is on 38 acres with beautiful open meadows and wooded areas with aspens and pines and a small stream from a mountain spring and wildlife. There are a few neighboring parcels, but our parcel is surrounded on three sides by public land. While it has a private, secluded feel, the lodge has very close access to main roads (Highway 88) and is near South Lake Tahoe (20 minutes away). Many guests that stay here enjoy doing a combination of sightseeing at Lake Tahoe, and visiting some of the quieter pristine mountain lakes and trails that we will tell you about! The lodge is accessible on paved roads during spring, summer and fall with plenty of parking right at the lodge. In winter, parking is at the snow park, about a 5 minute drive to the lodge via snowcat, and we can shuttle you between the lodge and your car when you want to head out somewhere, and pick you up when you return, or you can enjoy a beautiful 10 minute walk to your car on our snow trail. So you can definitely come and go as you please once you're here! Hope Valley is known for being one of the hidden gems of the Sierras. Note that there are stairs at the house. Ask about bringing your kids along! Great getaway for a couple or multiple couples, or families, as there are 4 private rooms that are individually rented.
