The supermarket for a ‘big’ shop is in COOP in Castiglione del Lago Beautiful apartment at the top of a three story villa. Can be arranged as a romantic getaway or for a family of four. Flooded with light and breathtaking views. Everything is provided for a wonderful self-catering experience. Smack-bam in wine-land, from Villa Gioiella you can enjoy best of Tuscany, the best of Umbria. Experience breath taking sunsets and 180 degree views of Montepulciano, Cortona and Chianciano Terme. High ceilings, chestnut-beams and French-doors with balconies on every floor. There is an amazing amount of light that pours in with breezes and views from the country outside. The bedrooms have comfortable matresses. Fresh white linen and towels are all provided. There are bathrooms on every floor. The kitchen is well equipped, with dishwasher, gas tops, oven, toasters kettles, wine glasses There is Wifi throughout the villa and a flat-screen Sky-TVs. A grand staircase takes you up three floors to the elegant two-bedroom penthouse apartment. The large private garden has a gazebo, trampoline and BBQ for alfresco dining. The villa's own romantic olive grove supplies the fresh olive oil for your stay. Just a short drive to all the adventures of Umbria and Tuscany and the white and beaches, bike rides and walks of Lake Trasimeno. The open plan sitting and dining rooms on the top floor and on the ground floor have fires and wood-burning stoves for spring and autumn evenings. A welcome pack is provided on arrival and in the historic village of Gioiella you are a few steps from wine and coffee at Bar Ruota. Fresh bread and groceries at the local Conad shop. No two places are the same obviously. Here are a few answers to questions about booking the villa and how it all works. For everything else please don’t hesitate to contact me! Can I book a short break (less than a week) at Villa Gioiella Holiday Home Yes, the minimum stay is three nights. Can I book a long stay? Yes – please enquire for great rates What is the arrival time? Arrival time is 3 p.m. onwards. Please enquire earlier check in may be possible. How can I collect the key? There is a key box for self-check-in. Code will be provided upon final payment of booking What is the departure time? Standard departure time is 10am. Please enquire – late check out may be possible. Can I start my Holiday Homes booking on any day of the week? Changeover day is completely flexible – just dependent on other bookings. Is bed linen included within the price of my Holiday Home booking? Beds at all properties are made up with duvets - all bed linen which is included in the price. Are towels included in the price of my holiday? Yes, we provide towels. Is electricity included within the price of my Holiday Home booking? Electricity is included within the total price. In autumn and spring, the first load of logs are supplied. Does the property have access to Wi-Fi? Yes free WiFi is provided. Does the property provide a cot and/or highchair? Yes both Can I bring my pets? In most cases it is OK to bring your pet. Please enquire How far is your apartment from the nearest train station or bus stop? The bus stop is across the road – but I would not rely on that to get around. You really need a car. The nearest train stations are (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) minutes drive either side of Gioiella in Castiglione del Lago (direction Florence) or Chiusi (direction Rome) Are there shops nearby to buy essentials? The closest shop is 2 minutes walk from the villa. You can purchase anything you need. Of course Bar Pub La Ruota is 1 minute away. For a bigger supermarket shop COOP and LIDL are in Castiglione del Lago as well as a number of smaller shops. For Italian clothes and designer outlets the closest one is Val di Chiana Outlet Village for lots of sport shops, mid-range fashion retail and Italian kitchenware. For high-end designer goods, The Mall near Florence is unbeatable. What kind of beds do you have in your rooms and how many people the villa accommodate? Two rooms with king beds – one room the bed can be separated into twin beds Can we have a party? You are in the countryside so no need to worry too much about noise level. Please enquire for help with private chef, party catering, cleaning or wedding planning. Do I have to clean before I leave? Please leave your holiday home clean and tidy at the end of your stay, which includes all equipment and utensils and please put out the rubbish into the appropriate recycling bin. Do I have to separate rubbish Yes please. Italy is very conscientious about separating plastics out and different bins are provided at the Villa. Top floor apartment. Parking in small piazza directly outside the villa. Villa Gioiella’s property manager, Oliver speaks English, French and Italian will be available locally to answer any questions you have during your stay. I will be available on call all the time before and after to make you feel at home. The neighbourhood is very friendly and relaxed In the middle of the breathtaking destinations of Umbria and Tuscany, Gioiella is a small village with a fabulous local bar, a shop/deli, pharmacy and post office. Surrounded by fantastic local restaurants. LOCATION, LOCATION, VACATION. Nestled in the sweet rolling hills of Italy’s green heart, on the border of Umbria & Tuscany, is the enchanting village of Gioiella. Depending on who you ask “Gioiella” means little gem- or little joy. Either way it sums it up perfectly. In the historic village of Gioiella you are a few steps from wine and coffee at Bar Ruota. The largest supermarket for a ‘big’ shop is in COOP in Castiglione del Lago - just 15mins drive Smack-bam in the middle of the Tuscan wine-lands of Montepulciano, a pleasant drive from Florence and Rome, 15 minutes from Lake Trasimeno, surrounded by the Umbrian countryside, you have food, wine, history and art Medieval villages. Gorgeous hikes, bike riding. Montepulciano, Chiusi, Cortona, Pienza, and the hilltop towns of Trasimeno: Panicale, Paciano, Città della Pieve, Pozzuolo, Vaiano and Passignano are all around you Rome, Florence, Siena and the Val d'Orcia are perfect day trips. Or why not relax in the hot springs of Bango Vignolo or Bagni San Fillippo. Vineyards, hilltop towns, natural hot springs, Etruscan remains, museums, art galleries, islands, restaurants, artisans, farmer’s and antique markets are all waiting to be explored. WINE AND OLIVE OIL The olive oil is from the garden THE TERROIR OF TRASIMENO The unique wines of Umbria are from three native grapes: the Trasimeno Gamay (or Gamay Perugino), the Grechetto and the Sangiovese. The vines grow on the hills of Castiglione del Lago, from Panicale, Paciano, Città della Pieve, Pozzuolo, Vaiano to Agello. Most vineyards have ‘vino sfuso’ which is Italian for wine-by-the-gallon’ ;-) -Poggio Bertaio On the drive to Castiglione del Lago you will see an unobtrusive sign. Do stop! Do knock! Do drink!! - Madrevite Nestled between two lakes, Lake Trasimeno and Lake Chiusi. Apart from spectacular wine you can buy Fagiolina del Trasimeno - ancient Etruscans beans that nearly went extinct. - Podere Marella Organic Umbrian wine! Yay! FOOD There are undisputed delicacies of Umbria—extra virgin olive oil, truffles, porchetta (suckling pig), pici, salami, and prosciutto, cheeses, lentils, fish from Lake Trasimeno and much more From ROME: 1. Follow signs for Firenze 2. Leave the motorway at Chiusi Chianciano Terme 3. Follow signs for Chiusi 4. After Chiusi follow signs to Castiglione del Lago 5. Follow signs to Gioiella 6. On via Garibaldi turn left after the church then SHARP left into small driveway. You are in Piazza Piccola at the villa. ————/// From FLORENCE 1. Follow signs for Roma 2. Leave motorway at Cortona/ Castiglione del Lago 3. Follow signs to Castiglione del Lago 4. Then for signs for Gioiella Turn right after the bar Ruota in Gioiella then SHARP left into small driveway.
