The Orchard Habarana

Inspired by the traditional Sri Lankan homes set in semi-wild tropical gardens, your host architect-artist Laki created this stylish cottage room opening out to the tree-filled garden. The Orchard Habarana is perfectly located down a small village road, by the peaceful tourist town of Habarana. A commercial hub since ancient times, Habarana now sits in the middle of the Cultural Triangle, and is the hub for accessing the famous wild elephant Gathering at Minneriya & Kaudulla. The Orchard, is Laki’s dream. Professionally an architect, in heart and artist nature lover and conservationist, Laki has combined all these elements when creating his beloved Orchard. The stylishly created bedrooms with personal verandahs opening out to the lush tropical home garden given the name –The Orchard, Garden View Rooms. The Orchard Habarana has been built for you and for the wild creatures that live off all that we offer. Tropical fruit trees such as well-known verities of mangos and oranges, grow side by side with the more local wood apple, sour sop, jack fruit, etc. The undergrowth is carefully landscaped with plants that invite butterflies and dragon flies to join the birds and monkeys that feed on the fruit trees. The carefully natured wilderness of The Orchard attracts fluttering butterflies, chirping birds and scampering squirrels as your constant companions, while endemic torque monkeys, fey wild rabbits and mouse deer will visit when least expected. Nature will hold you snugly in your room high in the canopy of trees. As you sit in the garden, you will feel the drama of the wild creatures busy in a lush green orchard. The room is air conditioned, with comfortable beds with crisp white linen, tea and coffee making facilities, mini refrigerator for your beer and fruit juices. We have even added a mini wardrobe – just to give you a break from living in your luggage! The total space is yours to share with the other guests and the little wild creatures that live in our garden. The Orchard Habarana is an intimate space, with just 4 bedrooms for guests. The bedrooms, of course, your own personal space. The varandah just outside your room has been designed especially for you to relax commune with nature within a few feet of your bedroom space. Out in the garden, is the pool to sink gratefully in after a long day of exploring, or to swim quietly on a moonlit night. And of course, the garden, the orchard is all yours to share with all the beautiful little wild creatures that make it their home. “The Orchard Habarana will soon be my studio home away from my professional architect's space in Colombo.
