Springwood Park - Hobby Farm in Oakbank - Animals
Located in Oakbank, South Australia with a very country feel - Horses, Cattle, Dogs, Cats, Sheep, Goats, Chickens, Guinnea Fowl, Turkeys and Geese. Many people enjoy staying at "Springwood Park" when attending weddings in the Adelaide Hills or alternatively wine or Gin tasting. Others come for the farm experience and animals free-ranging around the property A one room bedsitter or studio style accommodation, situated on a 30+ acre property. Animals are active in the mornings along (yes the roosters crow) Chickens, Guinnea Fowl Turkeys and Geese free-ranging for that farm feel. There are also Sheep, Cattle, Horses and Goats. For Breakfast You are more than welcome to collect your own eggs (when the chicken are laying) and cook them on the outdoor BBQ or indoors in the electric fry pan. (Please let us know if you would like to use BBQ). Basic startup breakfast provisions supplied : Bacon, Eggs, Milk and Bread. Kitchen facilities are a Fridge, Microwave, Sink, Toaster, kettle, Coffee Pod Machine, Toastie Toaster and Electric Fry Pan (there is also an Outdoor covered BBQ - if required) Property is on Rain/Bore water depending on season. However supermarket spring water supplied for drinking use. Fold out sofa bed available for extra guests - i.e. children if required (guests are requested to supply own bedding if fold out bed used) Situated close to our house but we feel it is still far enough away for privacy. However, please be aware people do come and go on the property for work and general animal care and maintenance. (The unit is located near our stables). Just cross the main road to access the Amy Gillett Bike Trail which is excellent for walking, bike riding etc. - (Bike hire available in Woodside.) Horse riding unavailable on property however. If you wish to bring your own horses then stables or yards are available at an extra cost. Centrally located between the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale in its own wine region known as the Adelaide Hills Wine Region. We are close to Woodside and lots of local winerys of the Adelaide Hills such as Bird in Hand Winery, Shaw and Smith, Barristers Block, Golding and Nepenthe. Another added bonus is the local Gin distilleries in the hills such as Lot 100, Applewood and Adelaide Hills Distillery. Other local attractions are Melbas chocolate factory, Lobethal and the Amy Gillett Bikeway ***10 minute drive to Historic Hahndorf*** Local hotel - Oakbank Hotel- We can recommend the Snitzels and Steaks. However Woodside and Bedford hotels also offer great meals. Woodside also offers lovely antique shops and coffee shops. In summer the local public pool at Woodside is a welcome retreat on hot days - there are bbq's at the pool if you wish to cook your dinner and have a swim too! Not much public transport available - own transport suggested. Ideally suited to animal lovers due to the morning activities the horses, free range Chickens, Guinnea Fowl, Turkeys and Geese. (Roosters crowing) Situated on a lovely country road with a historic swinging bridge at the end of our drive way which spans over the Onkaparinga River. Close to the Oakbank Racecourse. Whole property to enjoy and make yourself at home. It is Lovely to enjoy a drink in the evenings under the trees. We are a busy family with children so although someone is usually around the property your time here is private. We will endeavour to be available (if required) for suggestions on activities etc. (We apologise that at some times the animals will take our priority such as orphan lambs, horses etc.) You will find the animals are keen to interact and be fed, petted etc. particularly the Stable Cat "Shades". The chickens and Turkeys also enjoy Bread crumbs or wheat/Oats on the front lawn. The Adelaide Hills is full of wonderful wineries and of course we are only a 10 minute drive to historic Hahndorf. The Amy Gillett Bike way is accross the road and there is a local bike shop "About Bikes" in Woodside who hire out great bikes at a reasonable cost to enjoy the Bike trail on. (They even deliver and pick up bikes from Springwood Park should you require) Public Transport is very limited however it is still available. Own car or hire care reccommended. undercover parking is out front of accommodation. We are extremely flexible with arrival and departure times - we want you to enjoy your stay and not feel rushed or under pressure to either arrive or depart. We try not to have the unit booked either side of your stay with us. The local hotel at Charleston is a classical country pub and one of our favourites in the hills. However, the Oakbank, Balhannah and Woodside hotels also serve fantastic meals and atmosphere.
