Cottage #296 nr BreconBeacons & BikeParkWales
Converted miner's home in Aberdare in the Cynon Valley, 'Queen of the Valleys'. 8 miles South of Brecon Beacons National Park (Pen-y-Fan/ShowCaves/WaterfallCountry/BikeParkWales/ZipWorldTower/Sheep/LotsMore). A mecca for mountain bikers and ideal for walkers, cyclists and tourists, with excellent road links to Cardiff, Swansea, Mumbles, Gower, Mid-Wales, Brecon, The Wye Valley, and Caerphilly. Whilst this is an urban setting the surrounding area is stunning and fully accessible. Fully equipped with central heating, comfortable beds, a superb shower, and a splendid view across the valley. There are pubs, shops and take-aways all within walking distance and Aberdare town centre is 1 mile away. There are several miles of circular walks on the doorstep and Gravity Family Mountain Bike Park, is just a mile or so's gentle ride away, in The Dare Valley Country Park. On the Ground Floor we have a Living room; 2nd Reception-cum-bike-store; Kitchen with breakfast bar; Shower Room; and separate WC: Upstairs we have 2 large bedrooms, but, unfortunately, no bathroom or toilet. Outside, to the front of the house, there is a patio area with a table and chairs and sun-shade, and a decent sized raised lawn beyond. There is no back garden. Wash down facilities for bikes and a charcoal Bbq can be provided on request. Charcoal not provided I'm sorry. There is space for 1 car off street and there is also free on road parking nearby. You have a separate gated entrance to your property, up 3 steps and down 3 steps, although access can also be gained via the adjacent property (our house) if that is more convenient. ( Still up 1 step and 1 metre of uneven ground, but much easier for push chairs, wheelchairs or if carrying luggage or heavy bags). We are readily available and very happy to offer help and advice on local walks, places of interest, places to eat and things to do. Aberdare is an historical coal mining town in the heart of the famous South Wales Valleys. The locals are super friendly and living proof that there really is a, "Welcome in the Hillside". A car is recommended to take full advantage of this excellent location, being central to so many tourist attractions and places of interest. Asda and Tesco are 1 mile away as are KFC & McDonald's. The local pub, The Rock Inn, is dog friendly and does a superb Sunday lunch between 12.30 and 2, but be sure to book a table or order your takeaway well in advance. The Rock Inn also has karaoke on Friday nights and again you will be made very welcome. Dare Valley Country Park & Gravity Family Bike Park are 3 minutes away by car & Bike Park Wales 12 minutes. Zip World Tower is 8 miles away, Brecon Beacons National Park 10 miles, Pen y Fan 12 and Dan yr Ogof Showcaves 14. The Royal mint, Ogmore by Sea, Castell Coch, Gruffalo Trail Wales, and Caerphilly Castle are all within 20 miles. The City of Cardiff, Cardiff Bay, Barry Island and Swansea are within 25 miles, with the beautiful South Wales coast, Mumbles and the Gower peninsular a little further on. You can take a leisurely drive through the Brecon Beacons National Park visiting Brecon, Talybont, Crickhowell, Abergavenny, Sugar Loaf mountain, Usk and Caerleon, or Builth Wells and the Elan Valley, or Llandovery and Carmarthen. We are also within an hours drive of Raglan Castle, Tintern Abbey, Symonds Yat, Hay-on-Wye, and the Wye Valley where you can hire canoes for a very pleasurable day out. NB: Our prices reflect the fact that renovation work is not yet complete. Please be assured however that all outstanding work is minor and that there is nothing to jeopardise your safety or diminish the enjoyment of your stay.
