Beautiful Traditional Cottage Recently refurbished by new owners! Set in the small peaceful village of Storth (AONB) by the tidal river Kent Estuary, on the edge of the Lake District National Park. It has lots of charm, traditional style range cooker and wooden/stone floors. Has a fully equipped kitchen dishwasher etc. and washing machine in the small utility room. It is ideally situated for country walks in this designated area of outstanding natural beauty. The sea front is only 250 yards away and there is a great Pub The Ship Inn a similar distance. The small village of Storth occupies a pleasant position on the estuary of the River Kent, and is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of the Lake District National Park. The name Storth derives from the old Norse word meaning 'a woody place'. In the seventeenth century, Storth was a small hamlet with a few scattered farms in the outlying area. The main industries in the area were sheep farming, fishing and the gathering of cockles and mussels. Storth Sea Bank was built about 1776 along the lower part of the Kent Estuary. The Kent Estuary is a haven for bird life, green shanks, golden plovers, mergansers and goosanders, oyster catchers and lapwings can all be seen along its shores. There are some great walks near by - Beetham fairy steps is a lovely walk from the cottage, Arnside Knott with its stunning views of Morecambe bay and the lake district mountains with Arnside Tower Keep behind. Or you can walk through the grounds of the beautiful Dallam Tower Estate. With beautiful views all around this designated area of outstanding natural beauty there is much to see and enjoy just walking out of the door you can be in beautiful woodlands or walk along the stunning sands to Arnside and Silverdale. Guests have access to and use of the whole house, please make yourself at home Guests are left in peace however should anyone need anything at all i'm always available on the phone. Also the lady who looks after the cottage resides close by if assistance is required. The area is renowned for is beauty in terms of the local landscape which includes limestone pavements, beautiful woodland walks and views across the Kent Estuary and into the Lake District. It is also a well known for its amazing wildlife including butterflies, wild flowers and birds that can be viewed on the Kent Estuary or the nearby RSPB centre at Leighton Moss There are buses from our village to the surrounding villages and the nearby town of kendal. The nearest Railway station is Arnside a couple of miles away, which is on the Lancaster to Barrow - in - Furness line and has links to the London to Glasgow intercity. Cars can be parked at the side of the property and are essential for exploring The Lake District. The cottage has a wood burning fire and one bag of wood is provided. Broadband is free to use. Discounts may be available for late bookings or longer holidays please enquire. During the school holidays we prefer full week bookings however i will consider early short term bookings.
