Garden Cottage

A very peaceful traditional cottage dating back to around 1800 in a small picture perfect hamlet for 4/5 persons, renovated in 2018 to a luxury standard near the historic town of Aubusson. There is a large sociable open plan kitchen, dining, living area, with a large fireplace containing a wood burner, leading to a private walled courtyard garden ideal for alfresco dining or a BBQ. On the first floor are two spacious bedrooms and a bathroom with a free standing bath and a large walk in shower. The cottage is ideal for a short break, or holiday at any time of the year, providing a home from home, with lots of space to enjoy a holiday with family, or friends. For those with a little more time we offer discounts for weekly and monthly stays. In addition to the cottages private walled courtyard garden there is an extensive garden and an orchard, 14 acres in all including our home and a woodland, for you to explore. We started a project in 2017 to bring all we have back to life after many years of being empty and left to the effects of nature. This will take many years but be reassured the cottage and surrounding area are finished, blending modern luxuries with traditional features. Return visitors over the years will see our vision develop. We are located for ease of access to routes both North and South, so ideal for short stopovers, or a complete holiday. We are equally suited to families or a romantic break. With wildlife in abundance on our doorstep (deer are frequent visitors to our orchard), fabulous walking on our doorstep including forest paths and riverside walks, cycling and fishing. South East Cruse in Limousin is a hidden gem and represents rural France at its best, it is a little like stepping back in time. The nearest local boulangerie is 4km away in Champagnat, more small shops are available a little further afield in Bellegrade, including two restaurants, one with fantastic views across the valley from the outdoor terrace. The cottage has a private walled courtyard garden, in addition you have use of our extensive walled secure garden. Guests really enjoy the extensive outdoor space, from couples enjoying the peace and quite relaxing on the sun loungers, to those with young children having fun in the paddling pool they brought on holiday. Ajacent to the cottage is a small barn providing secure storage for bikes and bike accessories. For an additional charge to make more of your holiday you can choose from a two course supper including house wine, or a breakfast hamper. We will serve supper in your own cottage, or alfresco, ideal on the day you arrive. The breakfast hamper is great for short stays, brought to your door fresh each morning. We are both keen cooks and you will find everything you need to cook in the cottage and to barbecue. For guests with a love of walking, flying to Limoges or travelling by train for those who want to drive or who do not wish to hire a car, we offer a pick up and drop off service from and to the airport or railway station, we will also offer transport to a local restaurant one evening during your stay as well as a food shopping service, please contact us for further information and costs. We are very lucky to live in a tranquil hamlet, a car will give you access to a fantastic local area with many places of interest, including lovely villages and historic towns. Moutier d’Ahun is an award winning village along the river and Aubusson is our nearest town famous for its tapestries, including the Tolkien tapestries. Equally you can walk all day, from our doorstep with new routes to explore every day. La Naute which is 2.5kms away has a swimming lake with a bar and restaurant, there is live music each weekend throughout the season. There are other local swimming lakes, also ideal for a picnic. There is a fishing lake in our hamlet where you can fish without a permit as a resident in the cottage and many others very local to the cottage. Further afield Lac Vassiviere is within an hours drive, providing a fantastic day out, where you can swim in areas where there is a lifeguard, you can sail and canoe. For walkers there are marked trails around its 47km shoreline and a ferry boat service around the lake. Other local attractions include numerous brocantes and vide greniers, daily markets, chateaus, a wolf saunctuary and a giant labyrinth. Private parking for two cars is provided adjacent to the cottage, an electric point for recharging vehicles can be made available and with light traffic on the local roads the wider area is easily accessible. For walkers an equally delightful local area is accessible from the cottages doorstep, we have mapped out many walks for guests to enjoy. A signpost cycle route passes the cottage which covers 400 km, it uses roads with very light traffic and cycle ways. Limoges airport is 90 minutes away and we are 20 minutes from from the N145. The cottage has two lovely bedrooms, a double and a twin. For no additional cost in the spacious double bedroom we can add a comfortable fold away type bed to accommodate a fifth person, or a travel cot. A high chair and stair gates are also available.
