Country Living in a Forest Setting.
Come stay in your own cozy rustic mini apartment, a little over 25 minutes from the Portland suburbs, and about 45 minutes from Downtown Portland. Our home is on two wooded acres. You'll have a private deck, private bathroom, private entrance, and private living space. Queen bed in the bedroom and futon/sofa makes a twin size bed in the living room. Check-in time is after 4 pm. Early check-in is possible, just contact us. No Smokers! No pets, please. We repurposed our attached garage many years ago to use for a schoolroom (we are tutors) and then for an extra bedroom for when our adult children come to visit. Then we found out about Airbnb and opened this space up for guests. The apartment is on the other side of our laundry room, which you have access to as needed. You may hear us once in a while as we use the laundry room, but we do our best to be quiet and most folks never notice. We continue to make improvements every year because we have enjoyed meeting so many people from all over the world and sharing our space. In fact, some of my regular guests will be surprised to hear that we have just added a kitchen counter, sink, and other kitchen amenities. CONFUSED about conflicting ratings? We have noticed that some folks remark on how quiet our place is and others mention the noise. So here are more details on that: If you are coming from a bustling city, you will find it quiet here. If you are expecting total peace and quiet, you must be aware that the unit is attached to our main house. If you come to enjoy the surroundings and will only be in the unit in the evenings and mornings, you will find a LOT of quiet. But if you are looking for a place to stay indoors, quietly all day, you may be bothered by some sounds of our working household. My husband does translations and classes in a room near the unit and since COVID, more of this is online than before. But it is usually only a couple of hours during the afternoon. That said, we are in the process of soundproofing that room to make sure our guests are comfy. We respect our guests' privacy and peace and look forward to making people enjoy their stay with us. I follow Airbnb’s enhanced cleaning protocol, which was developed with expert guidance. Here are a few highlights: I sanitize high-touch surfaces, down to the doorknob. I use cleaners and disinfectants approved by global health agencies, and I wear protective gear to help prevent cross-contamination. I clean each room using extensive cleaning checklists. I provide extra cleaning supplies, so you can clean as you stay. I comply with local laws, including any additional safety or cleaning guidelines. More than just a bedroom, this space includes a small living space where you can relax outside of the bedroom. The living space includes a sofa/futon that makes a twin-sized bed. Bedding for the futon is found in the bedroom dresser, and there is a three-inch memory foam topper for the futon under the coffee counter. A TV with basic channels, a DVD player and Amazon Fire Stick are there for you. Also included are a K-cup coffee maker, a toaster, a microwave, mini-fridge, and a small crockpot. The coffee corner area is stocked with all you need to make coffee or tea, and the new kitchenette has a hot plate and basic cooking utensils, ceramic dishes, and silverware. We also supply instant oatmeal and a selection of granola bars. Take your meals inside at the table, or in nice weather, sit out on your private deck. We have great hot water with wonderful water pressure for your private bathroom, stocked with basic toiletries. We also have a terrific quality of fresh-tasting clean well water for drinking that is available straight from the tap. We have installed an Amazon fire stick and you will have access to those channels as well as basic cable and Netflix. We don't need air conditioning out here in the forest, but there is a fan for your convenience in case of hot weather and curtains to darken the room for a comfortable sleep. Our space does have some cosmetic quirks but we are always improving! The guest unit has a private entry with deck, bathroom, sitting room, kitchenette, and bedroom. Access to free, off-street parking and our shared laundry area. We always do our best to greet you when you come and tell you all about our wonderful area, but you have your own private entrance and can come and go as you like. Sometimes we might not be home when you arrive, and we will give you instructions to check yourself in if we know you are arriving when we won't be around. Please do your best to let us know of your arrival time as we do our best to answer our texts within a very short time. We are friendly folks but mostly keep to ourselves and allow you your privacy. We are just a mile and a half from the small town of Estacada, located on the Clackamas River. This quaint town has its own award-winning brewery, pleasant restaurants, pizza parlors, a grocery store, gift shops, antique shops, and an art gallery. Clackamas River Growlers is in the town center and offers beer, cider and kombucha on tap. It is run by a terrific deaf couple and you can follow the signs to order with sign language, or just point or slip them a note. It's a friendly place. Stone Circle Cider is a working farm with delicious ciders with outdoor seating by the pond. Sometimes I even have a coupon for a free cider. There are original murals on city buildings painted by local artists and several parks in the town. Estacada has a beautiful new library, too. Two state parks are just a couple of miles away, and we are just off of HWY 224, which will take you right into the Mt. Hood National Forest for hiking, fishing, and boating. And if you like hot springs, Bagby Hot Springs is a popular destination out here and just about 35 miles away. You need a car to get around, but there is bus transportation to Portland from nearby Estacada town, except on Sundays. This bus is a LONG ride and doesn't run often, and not at all on Sundays. If you are not a native Oregonian, please know that Oregon is lush and green, and to keep it that way, we get a lot of rain! We Oregonians have webbed feet and enjoy the pitter-patter of the rain on the roof while we are cozy inside. Springtime is often full of intermittent rain and sun, but summers are wonderful and often last until October, but not as sunny. Winters are generally wet, but mild, and snow rarely makes an appearance. Because we live in the forest under the large Douglas firs, it can seem rather dark in the rainy winter when the days are short and the sun sets between 4:00 and 5:30 on December evenings. There is a very large dopey dog on the property and you may see him and he may bark. He is very sweet and his masters are always nearby. I also have a sweet Australian shepherd who is always at my side and never out on her own but she will bark at you. If you are uncomfortable around dogs please let us know. There is a bag of dog treats on the table if you wish to treat them. CELL PHONES: We are in a rural area and some cell phone providers may have spotty service here. Verizon works well, and it seems AT&T does well, too. We do have pretty good internet, but out here in a rural situation, it can lag a bit at times. Recently we updated to Fiber Optics and get good reception.
