“Casa Berardi” is one of the most ancient building in the rural up-country of Ortona. Testimonies from owners indicate an age about 400 years old. The building appears solid, like a fortalice as the others ancient watchtowers of Ortona's surroundings.  The apartment called "Il Mezzadro" is created on the building used by the farmer who cultivated the farm and controlled the harvest. The apartment takes up part of the farmhouse's first floor and has got wide and bright rooms. "Casa Berardi” is one of the most ancient building in the rural up-country of Ortona. Casa Berardi's origins are dating back to 1700. “Casa Berardi” is located on 150 metres of altitude in the heart of Abruzzo Region, in the city of Ortona, which is in the province of Chieti. “Casa Berardi” is placed on the ancient path for transhumance toward Puglia Region, which was travelled by Hannibal. This path was the main route for Hannibal's army toward Cannes. “Casa Berardi” overlooks a green hollow and wide farms and it has got a beautiful landscape on the Majella mountain chain. During Second World War "Casa Berardi" was a ground control and it became a strategic path in the German defensive system. The building, named “The little Stalingrad” was important to avoid the Canadian occupancy of Ortona city. "Casa Berardi", a perfect union of nature, art and history. The Farmhouse The medieval building appears solid, like a fortalice as the others ancient watchtowers of Ortona's surroundings. The renovation of the Farmhouse, completed in 2008, was realized in respect of its original architectural structure, as handed down through history. This renovation was made to preserve the ancient and recorded features of the whole structure and the peculiarity of the products used for the finish. The Apartment " Il Mezzadro " has got an old furniture and from the wide windows you can see the hollow with vineyards and olive groves that invite you to a pleasant excursion to discover the smells and the colours of the ground. You can have a beautiful view of the Majella mountains from the kitchen windows. How to reach Casa Berardi A14 Highway: exit on Ortona tolbooth Turn Left and go through the SP 44, just pass the railway and arrive at a cross. Turn right to the cross and enter the Strada Provinciale ex SS 538, direction Orsogna called CONTRADA ALBORETO. After about 1 km, turn left on the touristic sign "CASA BERARDI"
