Wachapreague is a quiet seaside fishing village and nature getaway with wild islands offshore - perfect for biking, kayaking, boating, and exploring the wonders of the eastern shore. This spacious 4BR 2BA house 1 block from the waterfront has all the comforts of home with high ceilings, wood floors and nice screened in porch to enjoy the sea breeze. Ride your bike, paddle a kayak, walk the town. enjoy local seafood, bird watch, fish for flounder, pick crabs, eat oysters and clams - relax! This house faces the ocean salt marsh with water views that includes a screened in porch adding nice outdoor entertainment area with nice sea breezes. This 2-story home has an elevated first floor accessible by steps up - inside are high ceilings, wood floors, and plaster walls and big windows befitting a 1920 style home. Ceiling fans in every room keep the central heat/a/c circulating for comfort. The 4 bedrooms are upstairs with the front room a King sized bed with latex mattress, a queen/twin, a full and a twin win the other 3 bedrooms. The house is set for 3 couples or sleeps 7 (5 beds). The kitchen is fully equipped with a coffee maker, oven, microwave and dishwasher with a separate dining area is with a big table and chairs. A grill is available for outdoor cooking There is a private driveway and plenty of space for cars, and trailers/boats. Pets are allowed with advance notice and fee and should have their own bed for sleeping on the floor so they stay off beds. This house is occupied by guests only for their private enjoyment. Guest support is provided by the Wachapreague Inn around the corner. Keys are available at the Inn or through pre-arranged access. Once you check in you have the house to yourself. The nice folks at the Wachapreague Inn on Main St. around the corner from the house can provide assistance if needed - stop by either way to get a cup of coffee and shop their cute gift shop of local seaside art. The Island House restaurant offers one of the best seaside views on the East Coast and is a good spot for seafood or to relax on the deck. The corner store has sandwiches and drinks and the art gallery and novelty stores in town cater to local artists. Off shore is a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognizing the ecological importance of barrier islands to migrating birds. You can rent or charter a boat to go to the barrier islands or inshore Flounder trout drum or croaker fishing or go offshore fishing for Tuna and Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi) out of the town harbor. Drive 45 mins North to wild ponies at Chincoteague at the National Seashore/Assateague, or 45 mins South to the Bay Beach at Cape Charles. Walmart is a 15 min drive and the town of Onancock and Exmore are both about 20 min drives for groceries, restaurants or shops. Wachapreague is a coastal village about 4 miles East of Highway 13 about midway on the Eastern Shore of Virginia about equidistance between Chincoteague and Cape Charles. The town is bordered on the East by the salt marsh, barrier islands, and Ocean and on the West undeveloped farmland and woods. There is almost no public transit or ride sharing available. The nearby town of Olney has a grocery store, Walmart and CVS and eateries - about 15min drive. Bring your bike, boat, kayak and fishing pole or crab pot to enjoy this seaside community. There is a nice restaurant in town and a corner market for convenience. The town is quiet and friendly with fisherman and tourists and townsfolk all mingling together. Its a special place to relax and enjoy. Come experience this beautiful place centrally located on the seaside of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The Virginia Coastal Reserve of protected barrier islands is just off shore and is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rent a boat from the Marina in town or hire a charter to explore the inshore salt marsh and islands.
