Erw Lydan is a large detached Edwardian house in a secluded garden on the very edge of the small seaside village of Penmaenmawr near the walled town of Conwy. It is ideal for a holiday if you want somewhere with few people around but access to empty beaches, hills and lakes and small sleepy towns. In the village there is a bakery , a chemist, a grocers and a second hand book shop and a small museum. The house has 2 receptions , large kitchen, 3 doubles (+ 1 single at small additional cost) Erw Lydan is a detached house probably built as a holiday home for a Liverpool or Manchester family before the First World War, when Penmaenmawr was a fashionable resort made famous by the Victorian Prime Minister Gladstone. In the 1930s the house was bought by the retired architect of the Irish National Gallery in Dublin and modified. The garden is still much the same as it was then with the addition of decked areas and terraces to make the most of the views and the sunshine. We are on the very edge of the village where the National Park starts and you can walk ( or drive...) up the Mountain Lane to the hills overlooking the sea on one direction and the mountains of Snowdonia in the other and more than likely see the wild ponies that live here. The beach at Penmaenmawr and all the beaches alongside the coast are sandy and the sea is shallow so perfect for children dogs and dinghy sailing or sea kayaks. There is a single room accessed via a bedroom I can unlock for an additional charge of £25 a night I can remove the bed from bed 3 and set that room up as an office if required Dogs allowed but on a case by case basis All areas are accessible ( apart from 2 locked bedrooms and the basement) There is always someone available to speak to, But access is via a key safe . The village is a great base for walking or cycling and has a couple of restaurants and a variety of shops. We are on the Welsh Coastal Path and the cycle route. There is a request stop in the village for trains to Anglesey and to Chester/London First became a fashionable resort in the 19th century when Prime Minister Gladstone was a regular visitor The village is just off the A55 and also has a rail station with good connections to Manchester, London and Holyhead. There are lots of walks from the house into the hills. The Stone Circle Penmaenmawr is a favourite of ours. Check out the website for the Penmaenmawr Museum There are plenty of outside areas to eat and relax in, with views of the sea and mountains. Parents should note there is a small stream in the garden. The WiFi is fibre so the broadband is 45 mbits
