Elies Cottage: a beautiful small country house, built in the 1920s on the rich Cretan land. In Crete we call it "metohi". Lovingly and with care, we have renovated and furnished the house with simple, functional pieces that will serve the needs of the modern traveler. To this day, the old olive grove provides the family with the olive oil, the basis for healthy eating. We can't wait to be your hosts! Who we are: We are Eva, Kalliopi and Haris, artists who work in the fields of drama, visual arts, and graphic arts. We have always been interested in mainly exploring our artistic interests, so this project was something new to us. Yet, the prospect of creating something that would offer the opportunity of meeting people from different mentalities and cultures from all over the world was reason enough for this tourist enterprise. So, just like that, investing our personal labour in the project, and with our friends' help, we converted grandma's old country house into a welcoming guesthouse. Eva and Kalliopi are the owners of the small farmhouse, our granny's legacy to us, while Haris, our friend and collaborator, gladly embarked on this adventure with us. Haris and his partner, the sweet and gentle Maria, will be at your disposal, eager to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The house is located in Lasithi, the easternmost part of Crete, close to Piskokefalo village, at a distance of 2,5 km from the city of Sitia, on the main road of Sitia-Ierapetra, Southern Crete. We decided to call the house "Elies Cottage": "Elies" for the olive-trees which are everywhere on this land and provide us with their olive oil, while "cottage" for us refers to the age of the building, a "metohi" or country house, built prior to 1923 on the Cretan land. The house is not part of a village, so all our guests are advised to use a car. In Crete, the locals call "metohi" the narrow, two-floor, stone-built houses, that date from before the 19th century to the early 20th century. These farmhouses were usually located far from the villages, in distant areas, where people cultivated grapes or olive trees. For the villagers, who had to walk for hours or even days, over rough and wild paths, the "metohi" was their work site, roughly equivalent to the factory of our times. When harvesting commenced, they were to live at the "metohi" for weeks, until the grapes or olives were picked. They would sleep, cook their everyday food on the "prastia", the traditional fireplace, peel the fruits, pack them up, e.t.c. Those who cultivated grapes, would also make their grape brandy with the strong enchanting taste. Reflecting on the past and present uses of the house, we renovated the family's metohi. Furnishing the house with simple things that serve the modern traveller's daily needs was a labor of love for us. Amidst a private olive grove with 62 olive trees, the house is a narrow, two-floor building of just 57 square meters. The first floor houses the comfortable double bed and the WC/toilet, while on the ground floor one finds the living room and the cute, practical kitchen. The main bathroom of the house is outdoors, in the yard. The ground floor is equipped with two mattresses, one on the wooden bench and a spare one, which can potentially accommodate an extra two persons, especially children or young people. The kitchen is fully equipped and can accommodate the needs of up to six persons. Coffee, tea, beverages and olive oil will always be available without charge throughout your stay. Upon your arrival, you will find complimentary goodies, such as fruits or raki, our gesture of welcoming you to your home away from home. In the courtyard, the large, stone-built BBQ and the wood-burning cook stove are there to facilitate your exceptional, tasty cooking. We hope you look forward to cozy, friendly meetings over food and drinks. Our small garden, the lemon tree, the tangerine tree, and the various greek herbs available will offer taste and imaginative twists to your afternoon cocktail drinks. In the shade of the trees, the hammocks swaying in the breeze bear the promise of a relaxing nap. So, Welcome and make yourself at home! **we kindly inform you that the farmhouse is not suitable for unsupervised minors. You are requested to care for your children at all times. The farmhouse is not suitable for people with disabilities. The indoor staircase connecting the two levels of the building should be used carefully, as the steps are slightly further apart than usual. There is ample parking space within the plot, which is adjacent to the cottage. -------- Elies Cottage: Φιλοξενία στον ελαιώνα με το παλιό Κρητικό Μετόχι Είμαστε η Εύα, η Καλλιόπη και ο Χάρης. Είμαστε όλοι καλλιτέχνες, θεατρικών εικαστικών και γραφιστικών τεχνών. Η προοπτική να φτιάξουμε κάτι δικό μας, που θα μας έδινε την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσουμε ανθρώπους απ όλο τον κόσμο και ταυτόχρονα να αυξήσουμε το εισόδημά μας, μας ενθάρρυνε να ασχοληθούμε επαγγελματικά, παράλληλα με τις καλλιτεχνικές μας δραστηριότητες, με την ενοικίαση τουριστικών καταλυμάτων. Έτσι, με προσωπική μας κυρίως εργασία και με την βοήθεια των φίλων μας, μετατρέψαμε το παλιό μετόχι της γιαγιάς σε φιλόξενους ξενώνες. Οι δυο μας Εύα και Καλλιόπη είμαστε οι ιδιοκτήτριες του σπιτιού που η γιαγιά μας κληροδότησε και ο Χάρης είναι συνδικαιούχος και διαχειριστής της νέας μας αυτής δραστηριότητας. Ο Χάρης και η σύντροφός του, η γλυκιά Μαρία, θα είναι στη διάθεσή σας, έτοιμοι να κάνουν την παραμονή σας άνετη και ευχάριστη. Elies Cottage ονομάσαμε το μετόχι της γιαγιάς. Elies, που σημαίνει, ελαιόδεντρα, γιατί το κτήμα είναι γεμάτο ελιές. Cottage, γιατί το σπίτι είναι ένα παλιό, πριν το 1923, μετόχι φτιαγμένο πάνω στη κρητική γη με χώμα και πέτρα. Μετόχι τα λένε, εδώ στην Κρήτη οι κάτοικοι Κρητικοί, τα στενά διώροφα κτίσματα που φτιάχνανε πριν τον 19ο και μέχρι τις αρχές του 20ου αιώνα....... με πέτρα και λάσπη….. για να μένουν όταν πηγαίνανε στα μακρινά χωράφια τους να μαζέψουν τις σοδειές τους. Με τις αποστάσεις μεγάλες και τα μονοπάτια δύσβατα.............. τα μετόχια ήταν τα "εργοτάξια" της εποχής. Εκεί θα κοιμόντουσαν, θα μαγείρευαν στην πραστιά, το σημερινό μας τζάκι, θα καθάριζαν τους καρπούς της σοδειάς τους και αν η καλλιέργεια ήταν το σταφύλι, θα φτιάχνανε και το απόσταγμα με την δυνατή μαγευτική γεύση, την ρακί. Εμείς αναστηλώσαμε και επιδιορθώσαμε το Μετόχι της οικογένειας με κέφι, αγάπη και μεράκι και το εξοπλίσαμε με πράγματα απλά που όμως εξυπηρετούν τις ανάγκες του καιρού μας. Και το ονομάσαμε ΕΛΙΕΣ, γιατί μέχρι και σήμερα μας δίνει το λάδι όλης της χρονιάς. Βρίσκεται στο Λασίθι, κοντά στο χωριό Πισκοκέφαλο σε απόσταση 2,5 χλμ από τη πόλη της Σητείας, πάνω στο δρόμο που οδηγεί προς την πόλη της Ιεράπετρας, στην Νότια Κρήτη. Δεν βρίσκεται μέσα σε οικισμό γι αυτό και είναι απαραίτητο για τις μετακινήσεις σας το ιδιωτικό αυτοκίνητο. Μέσα σ ένα ιδιόκτητο ελαιώνα 4,7 στρεμμάτων με 62 ελιές, με απόλυτη ιδιοτικότητα, το σπίτι είναι ένα στενό διώροφο κτίσμα, μόλις 57 τμ πάνω - κάτω. Ένα άνετο διπλό κρεββάτι έχει στον όροφο και μία τουλέτα-WC και κάτω το καθιστικό και η πρακτική μικρή κουζίνα. Το κεντρικό πλήρες μπάνιο του σπιτιού είναι έξω από το σπίτι, στην αυλή. Στο κάτω πάτωμα, έχει δυό στρώματα το σπίτι και μπορεί να φιλοξενήσει για ύπνο δύο ακόμα άτομα, ιδανικά κυρίως για παιδιά και νέους. Η κουζίνα είναι πλήρως εξοπλισμένη με σκεύη για 6 άτομα. Καφές, διάφορα ροφήματα και λάδι από το κτήμα, υπάρχουν πάντα στο σπίτι. Και διάφορα καλούδια, φρούτα η ρακί θα σας περιμένουν για καλωσόρισμα την πρώτη σας μέρα. Στην αυλή το μεγάλο πέτρινο BBQ και ο φούρνος με τα ξύλα προσφέρονται για ξεχωριστές μαγειρικές και ανυπομονούν για φιλικές συναντήσεις με μεζέδες και ρακί. Στο μικρό κήπο της αυλής, μια λεμονιά, μια μανταρινιά και διάφορα μυρωδικά φυτά θα δίνουν γεύση στα απογευματινά κοκτέιλ σας. Κάτω απ τις ελιές, οι αιώρες το ηλιοβασίλεμα προσφέρονται για διάβασμα και χαλαρό, δροσερό......... υπνάκο. **Το σπίτι δεν είναι κατάλληλο για παιδιά χωρίς επίβλεψη και συνοδό. Το σπίτι δεν είναι κατάλληλο για ΑΜΕΑ. Η εσωτερική σκάλα έχει μικρή δυσκολία, καθώς τα σκαλοπάτια της είναι λίγο πιο ψηλά από το κανονικό. Δεν υπάρχει πρόβλημα parking. Τα αυτοκίνητα μπαίνουν μέσα στο κτήμα και παρκάρουν κοντά στο σπίτι. The very picturesque Piskokefalos square offers the breezy shade of plane trees while you enjoy the healing powers of the local raki. Sitia is a peaceful city that offers everything the weary traveler might need. The scenery is simply breathtaking; the ambitious wanderer can reach Vai, China, Mersini, Palaiokasto, Zakros, and several other spectacular sites that are well worth seeing. ------------ Στην γραφική πλατεία του Πισκοκέφαλου μπορείτε να απολαύσετε την σκιά κάτω από τα πλατάνια μαζί με την θεραπευτική ρακί του τόπου. Η Σητεία είναι μια πολύ ήρεμη πόλη , όπου μπορείτε να βρείτε ότι χρειάζεστε. Από εκεί και πέρα, το σημείο είναι μαγικό και ανάλογα με την αντοχή σας στις αποστάσεις μπορείτε να φτάσετε στο Βάι, στη Χιώνα, στην Μυρσινή, στο Παλαιόκαστρο, στη Ζάκρο και σε πολλά ακόμη καταπληκτικά μέρη. The house is situated in Lasithi, the eastern part of Crete, close to Piskokefalo village, at a distance of 2,5 km from the city of Sitia, along the main road Sitia-Ierapetra, in Southern Crete. The location is not part of a village, so unless you are fond of hiking, you are advised to use a car. You can fly to Sitia, drive from other parts of Crete, or catch the boat from Piraeus, Attica. -------------- Το σπίτι βρίσκεται στο Λασίθι, κοντά στο χωριό Πισκοκέφαλο και σε απόσταση 2,5 χλμ από τη πόλη της Σητείας, πάνω στο δρόμο που οδηγεί προς την πόλη της Ιεράπετρας, στην Νότια Κρήτη. Δεν βρίσκεται μέσα σε οικισμό γι αυτό και είναι απαραίτητο για τις μετακινήσεις σας το ιδιωτικό αυτοκίνητο, αν το καθημερινό περπάτημα δεν είναι η αγαπημένη σας λύση. Στη Σητεία μπορείτε να φτάσετε αεροπορικώς, οδικώς από άλλες περιοχές της Κρήτης ή ακτοπλοϊκώς κατευθείαν από Πειραιά.
