Located on a private lane with private parking and access through a tiered garden, The Pound is a two bedroom (connected rooms) L-shaped flat. The front door leads into the lounge with bedrooms to the right. From the left a step takes you into the kitchen with the bathroom on the left. ‘The Pound’ is a quirky two bedroom (connecting rooms) log cabin flat. It also has a lounge, kitchen and bathroom and is accessed via a zig zag path leading up from a designated parking area. When we bought the house 8 years ago, The Pound was a dog grooming parlour, hence the name, which was in a very bad state. We renovated it for two of our sons to live in and a few years on, and both sons having moved out, it is now surplus to our requirements, so have decided to rent it out for you to stay in to enjoy the Cornish experience. We have tried to think of everything you would need during your stay to make it a home from home holiday. At the back of the property there is a storage box which houses recycling bags and where your bagged rubbish can be stored for collection on a Thursday evening. As we are close to the A30, which can be seen from the front of the property, there is traffic noise outside but not within the accommodation. There is a bbq, table and 4 chairs on the patio at the front of the property but as the property is surrounded by large trees there is only direct sunlight in the morning. Located between Illogan, Portreath and Redruth there is easy access by road to each. Jenn's Diner is a family-run American style diner a one minute walk away. The Track is a five acre cycle facility based near Portreath and is less than 1 mile away. The Track is suitable for ALL types of mountain bikes, E-Bikes, BMX bikes and balance bikes and all ages and abilities. Kernow Hydro pool is also situated on this site. The Cornish mining town of Redruth town is a 10 minute walk away and there is easy access to all surrounding towns and villages via the public bus and train system. Redruth is home to a variety of exceptional pasty shops, individual shops, cafes, cinema/theatre and boasts the home of the famous William Murdoch, the first man to invent domestic gaslighting. His house can be visited and his invention is celebrated with Murdoch Day every year during mid June with an exciting programme of events including children’s dance and art procession, all day music and entertainment, a street market, old time fair exhibitions and a variety of live concerts and other events around the town. Redruth also hosts an annual Pasty & Mining Festival each September. The event is focussed around the town centre. The Friday is Mining Day, the Saturday is Pasty Day and the Sunday is Memorial & Fun Day. Activities on Pasty Day include cookery demonstrations and ‘make your own pasty’. Portreath is the closest beach, being only 3 miles away. With Porthtowan, Gwithian, Hayle, St Ives, St Agnes and Perranporth all a stones’ through away on the north Cornish coast. Each beach is unique boasting beautiful golden sand, cliffs and rocks with miles of coastal paths ready to be discovered with The Pound being a great location for you to relax after any expedition, however being close to the A30 there is traffic noise in the garden, but not inside the accommodation. Overlooking both Camborne and Redruth and reaching up to 738 feet above sea level is Carn Brea which is 1.8 miles away. The Carn can be seen from most high ground in Cornwall and the monument on top easily picked out. Conversely the view from the top of the Carn takes in both coasts and a good deal of the Camborne/Redruth conurbation. What is not apparent from any distance is the size of the monument, with it being a 90 foot high granite obelisk. The huge hexagonal column was erected in 1836 in memory of Francis Bassett, Lord de Dunstaville. The Bassetts where the most important mining family in the area and had lived in Tehidy for over 700 years (Tehidy is now the largest area of woodland in West Cornwall. Now managed as a Country Park, Tehidy has over 9 miles (14.5km) of paths and 250 acres of peaceful woods and lakes to explore, together with a café and a picnic area. Francis Bassett was however the first to be elevated to the nobility due to his efforts to raise an army of miners to defend the port of Plymouth from the combined Spanish and French fleets. Another legacy of the Bassett family is Carn Brea Castle. It is suggested that it started out as an Elizabethan hunting lodge, was a Victorian folly and is now a restaurant. Carn Brea also has associations with the legendary giants of Cornwall. It is said to be the home of the giant Bolster who when standing could put his other foot on top of St Agnes Beacon over 10 miles away! Cornwall's capital city Truro is 11 miles away. Truro Cathedral is located in the centre of this thriving Cornish city and wonderfully situated in the middle of the duchy of Cornwall. Designed by architect John Loughborough Pearson, it is one of only three cathedrals in the UK which has three spires. Completed in 1910 it is a magnificent example of gothic revival architecture. A must-see place to visit in Cornwall with free entry. The Bissoe Cycle Path is a coast to coast trail that links Portreath harbour 11 miles across the county to the port of Devoran on the South coast. In the 1800s, this trail was used as a mineral tramway for the copper mines around Redruth. The Eden Project (Cornish: Edenva) is a popular visitor attraction in Cornwall. Inside the two biomes are plants that are collected from many diverse climates and environments. The project is located in a reclaimed china clay pit and is 33 miles away. The Minack is a unique theatre perched on the cliffs high above the Atlantic ocean where they hold musicals and operas every summer, together with music, comedy and story-telling events. The Minack is 27 miles away. St Michaels Mount is 17 miles away. St Michael's Mount is a tidal island in Mount's Bay, Cornwall. The island is a civil parish and is linked to the town of Marazion by a man-made causeway of granite setts, passable between mid-tide and low water. It is managed by the National Trust, and the castle and chapel have been the home of the St Aubyn family since approximately 1650. St Ives is classed as the dazzling jewel in Cornwall’s crown. A picturesque fishing harbour and seaside town and listed as one of TripAdvisor’s top 10 European beaches. Here you can wander through the maze of narrow cobbled streets, independent shops and fisherman’s cottages and only 17 miles away. Cycle hire is 1.1 miles away. Train station and bus stops are 1.4 miles away. Local Tesco store is a 5 minute walk away, 0.4 miles. Great location for utilising the Cornish coastal path.
