Weare Cottage is tucked away in an idyllic North Devon village in the Torridge valley, just 6 miles from long sandy beaches, rocky coves and the SW coast path. Conveniently situated between the port of Bideford and the historic market town of Torrington it’s only 2 minutes walk to the local pub and 5 minutes to the children’s playground, park and village orchard. Outside: -The property features a large and very private south facing decked terrace with outdoor dining furniture, large parasol, sun loungers, casual seating and gas bbq. The adjacent garden with lawn and flowerbeds is fully enclosed and surrounded by mature trees. - Private driveway parking is available for up to 3 cars and bikes/surfboards etc. can be stored safely at the back of the house. “A beautiful place to stay” Keys may be collected in person or from a key safe if preferred. We live nearby and are more than happy to offer advice and recommendations on the local area. 5 minutes away lies the market town of Torrington with a great little cinema and arts centre (The Plough) plus a good selection of independent shops and supermarkets. Bideford, just 10 minutes away, also boasts many small independent shops along Mill Street and a good number of supermarkets. The gloriously long sandy beach at Westward Ho! is just 5 mins beyond, great for swimming, body boarding, surfing, kite surfing or just a long gentle stroll within the UNESCO biosphere. There are also a range of beautiful country and woodland walks from the doorstep with access points to the 180 mile long 'Tarka Trail' cycling/walking route which traverses North Devon. (Cycles can be hired from both Torrington and Bideford.) “Beautiful spot to explore surrounding areas” Visitor Attractions nearby include: - RHS Rosemoor gardens, Hartland Abbey and Docton Mill gardens - Clovelly, a picturesque, car free, heritage harbour village, - The Big Sheep and Milky Way theme parks - Woody Bay steam railway, Lynton/Lynmouth funicular cliff railway - Dartington Crystal - watch glass blowing in Torrington - Trips to Lundy Island leave from both Bideford and Ilfracombe where puffins may be spotted between April-July and seals all year round. For the more adventurous, surfing, kayaking, coasteering, kite surfing, horse riding and both lake and sea fishing are all available locally along with 3 great golf courses, including the oldest course in the country. There’s a new beach for every day as you explore the coastline both north and south from the cottage; from Woolacombe, Saunton and Croyde down to Bude and beyond into Cornwall. We can let you know which ones the locals prefer... For younger guests we have The Big Sheep, The Milky Way and the North Devon Wakepark/Aquazone close by, plus crabbing, rockpooling and sandcastles to keep them busy! Exmoor zoo and the Dinosaur and wildlife park are also a great day out. A number of picturesque coastal towns including Instow and Appledore lie within 15 minutes, each with a great selection of cafes, pubs, restaurants and take-aways. Many inland villages also have traditional, cosy, country pubs serving fantastic food- just ask for a recommendation... There is a daily bus service into the local towns but it is infrequent. Taxis are available from the local town. Please note that our arrival day is usually a Friday and during peak times we offer a 7 night stay (or multiples of 7 nights). During off peak times we can accept short stays arriving on Fridays or Mondays - please do get in touch if you are considering this. We do not currently have facilities to charge electric cars. If a car has been charged from the domestic supply we kindly request that the guest calculates and reimburses the owners for the electricity used.
