Converted Chapel on Coniston Water, pet friendly
The glorious location with unspoilt views over Coniston Water and its own private lake shore sets Sunny Bank Chapel apart as the place to stay in the Western Lake District. A complete refurbishment completed in 2020 has converted this near-derelict 17C chapel into a stunning self-catering holiday let. Want a romantic retreat, a base for exploring the Lake District or a place to relax or work without disturbance? - this is the place for you. The spacious open-plan living area retains the high ceiling and oak trusses of the original chapel, with tall windows giving wonderful views down to the lake. There are comfy sofas around the wood-burner, a smart TV, dining area for up to 6, and a breakfast bar. Underfloor heating throughout ensures the building is always warm and cosy. The hand-built kitchen with granite worktops is fully-equipped with everything you are likely to need. Double doors lead onto the terrace. The elevated position makes this a fantastic place to sit and gaze at stunning views - Torver Common and Coniston Old Man behind you, fields, woods and lake in front! Make friends with the sheep, watch the birds on the bird feeder, and enjoy outside dining and barbecues surrounded by beautiful countryside. A fire pit will help you keep warm on cooler days. The bedroom, with its sliding glass doors offers the same view - quite something to wake up to - but is also fully private with blackout blinds and thick curtains to help you enjoy a good night's sleep. The bathroom has a good quality walk-in shower, a heated mirror and towel rail as well as a nice warm floor under your feet. A separate laundry area has washing machine, tumble dryer and clothes drying rack. Plenty of coat hooks in the heated porch for drying wet coats. The mezzanine area above the kitchen can be set up as a quiet working space (folding table provided) or as a second bedroom, using the two futon beds. Whilst there is no door to the mezzanine, a stair gate for the top of the stairs is provided if needed. Fabric pads fit onto the truss window for privacy, and the Velux windows have blackout blinds. The fields and lake shore are shared with Sunny Bank Farm, just down the slope, but with so much space you may never even notice anyone else around. There is private parking, and an EV charge point is available in a nearby parking area - £25 for your stay. You can also hire our Canadian canoe, which is £40 for your stay, including buoyancy aids. You will let yourselves in using the key in a lockbox, and will have the place to yourselves. A caretaker lives nearby should you need any assistance during your stay. Local information is provided with your booking confirmation.
