The Thornton Hunt Inn is a traditional Freehouse set in an attractive grade II listed building, which dates back to around the eighteenth century. It has been said that King Henry VIII stayed on this site while visiting Thornton Abbey. The Inn is situated in the quaint village of Thornton Curtis on the A1077, approx. 18 miles from Scunthorpe, 5 miles from Barton-upon-Humber (and the Humber Bridge), 4 miles south of New Holland and 19 miles from Grimsby. Our single en-suite has a comfortable single bed, hairdryer, clock radio, tea/coffee/hot chocolate/green & herbal tea making facilities with a chocolate biscuit, bottled water, soap & shower gel, selection of reading books, a few welcoming sweets, bedside & dressing table lamp, Freeview TV + built in DVD player, pictures of our local area, past & present. Detailed compendium of information, local information (with additional literature in our entrance area) & Iron & board (available on request). This room is on the first floor. Our accommodation area has its own entrance which is controlled by a numbered combination lock and allows guests to come and go as they please. The Inn is situated in the quaint village of Thornton Curtis and lies in the heart of the glorious North Lincolnshire countryside. The parish covers over 4,900 acres and includes the hamlet of Burnham. The Abbey of St. Mary, also known as Thornton Abbey, sits just east of the village (1.5 miles). The Abbey was founded in 1139 by Wlliams le Gros, Earl of Yorkshire and reached status of Abbey in 1148. It was seized by the crown in the Dissolution of 1541. It is now an English Heritage site.
