Chalet Du Bois - Switzerland
Chalet du Bois sits in the heart of the Valais region of Switzerland and offers fantastic accommodation alongside access to all the Alps have to offer as a holiday destination throughout the year. The views from the chalet are spectacular with Mont Dent and the Matterhorn dominating the landscape. In winter, ski-in-ski-out access is possible via the black run adjacent to the chalet which is two minutes skiing from Les Masses Express chair lift. In summer the walking and biking routes are superb. An open plan living, dining and kitchen space with stunning views and a wood burning fire is the best part about staying at the Chalet du Bois. Three double bedrooms, together with accommodation for two more on the mezzanine floor means the chalet can sleep up to eight guests. Two bathrooms and a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer mean you can really make yourself feel at home. Outside, the balcony offers panoramic views to the south and east whilst the sunny patio is a sun trap outside of the ski season. When the snow is at chalet level (1600m) the adjacent black run means ski-in-ski-out is the ideal way to access the vast 4 Valleys ski area which stretches as far as Verbier. There is reserved parking for one car in the car park below the chalet. Access then requires a hike up 100 steps! You are rewarded with fantastic views and an unrivalled ski-in-ski-out facility. Communication is via e-mail, text or phone call as I will be in the UK whilst guests stay in the chalet. The 4 Valley ski area is the biggest attraction in the winter season, offering one of the largest pisted ski areas in the Alps. In the summer there are numerous walking and biking trails which provide plenty of opportunities to explore the mountains. There are a range of restaurants and bars at Les Collons 1800 which is a 15 minute drive or a one hour walk. Closer to home, in the hamlet of Les Masses, Le Bois Sauvage is a fantastic bar and restaurant only ten minutes walk away from the chalet alongside a small convenience store. Larger shopping facilities are available either ten minutes drive down the mountain to the village of Heremence, or 25 minutes drive down to Sion which offers everything you would expect of a middle sized town including rail links to Lausanne a Geneva. A public bus operates several times a day from the railway station in Sion up to Les Masses. A car is the best way to access the chalet and enjoy the wider area. In winter, less confident skiers would either need to walk (15 minutes) or drive (2 minutes) to the multi-storey car park below Les Masses Express ski lift which then whisks skiers up to the main ski area in less than ten minutes. It is possible to access Les Masses and the chalet by taking the bus up from Sion, however, you would need to ensure you have plenty of supplies with you as the local shop provides fresh bread, fruit and vegetables daily, but other choices are limited.
