Surgères is also a medieval wall in the heart of the city, sheltering a precious heritage including the Notre Dame church in a superb park with hundred-year-old trees. In this sector, you can explore the coast (from 1/2 hour to 1 hour by road), the islands of Aix, Madame, Ré or Oléron and approach the famous Fort Boyard by boat. Rochefort, the arsenal city, is an exciting stopover for discovering maritime history through its sites and heritage. You can also visit the charming villages on the banks of the Charente or enjoy great sites such as the Palmyre zoo.
