-A beautiful 200 year old mill house cottage set adjacent to the bubbling Cam brook. Set in a stunning garden and sleeping up to 6 this is the perfect countryside escape. The cottage is located just 10 miles from both Bath and Bristol and there are lots of places to walk and explore in the vicinity including a waterfall, minutes from the front door. The cottage was fully redecorated in October 2020. Built over 200 years ago the cottage was originally built to house the owner of the corn mill next to it (now converted and is our family home). The cottage is quirky with lots of original features and has three floors. The cottage patio has a table for 6, a bbq, and looks over the vegetable garden and nothing but trees and green beyond. The brook is a few steps away through a gate (with a bolt to keep dogs and small children safe). You can hear it from the 2 garden facing bedrooms as you go to sleep. There is also a fire drum you are welcome to use. On the ground floor is the kitchen, dining room and lounge with an open fire place. The first floor has a 2 bedrooms - a larger one at the front and a smaller one with a view of the garden. Up a couple of steps on the first floor is a good sized bathroom with a unique vintage bathtub and modern, digital waterfall shower. Then there is an unusual and steep staircase up to the double height bedroom on the 2nd floor - not suitable for anyone with mobility issues or very young children, but for those that don’t fall into that category, it’s a tough choice, but we think it just about wins as the nicest room in the house! The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen including a double cooker and grill, 4 ring gas hob, microwave and good sized fridge and freezer. There is a big double sink but no dishwasher. Hot water is on demand. There is a 'Nest' independently controllable central heating system installed and a NOWtv box in the lounge. From the NOW box you can access all the TV apps including BBC iPlayer, ITV, 4OD as well as the cottage subscription to Netflix and NOW movies. There is also an Echo so you can 'ask Alexa' for any kind of music you want or to find out what the weather is going to be like that day! In the lounge there are numerous board games, childrens toys and books as well as our collection of vintage and local area books. The cottage is ideal for for family and friend groups who want some time together and peace and quiet in a beautiful, tranquil spot with great access to countryside walks, summer bbqs or fireside games. All the attractions that Bristol, Bath, Wells, Cheddar, Wookey Hole and Glastonbury have to offer are a half hour drive away or less (and those are just the obvious ones). So you can enjoy them easily and come back to some tranquility at the end of the day. All our guests comment on how much there is to do and visit in the area, whatever the weather! There is a large open fireplace in the living room which you are welcome to use. We don't provide wood as a matter of course - the local Tesco usually stock bags of wood in the winter months - the postcode and details of how to get there is available in the information book in the cottage - if you are really stuck we might be able to help from our own supply for a small charge but please supply your own if you can. In the kitchen we supply for your convenience fresh milk, fresh eggs from our own chickens whenever we can - if not fresh free range from our local farm, coffee for the cafetière, teabags, salt and pepper. You are welcome to pick herbs from the garden if they are available. If you forgot an ingredient you need for your evening meal...please just ask. For guests staying longer than a few days we will be happy to provide you with clean linen and towels anytime. This is a responsive service not an automatic one so please just send us a text /email / or call when you need them and we will deliver them to your door as soon as we can. We dont list it but we do have an accessible washing machine and tumble drier on site for guests who have booked for 3 days or more. Please let us know if you would like to use them and we will provide a key to give you access to them. You will need to provide your own laundry tablets. We do our best to make our guests have a home away from home experience. If you find something is missing or isn't workng as it should please do let us know and we will respond during your booking if we possibly can. We also try to be as green as possible. We refill all our soap dispensers and washing up liquid, use eco friendly cleaning products and we encourage our guests to take care to sort their waste properly so it can be properly recycled. The cottage is ideally placed for family and friends parties attending weddings at Ston Easton (3 miles ) and Priston (6 miles) also venues in Wells, Mells, Bath and Bristol. There are good local taxi services who can transport guests to and from the cottage (advanced booking advised though - let us know if you need help with this). There are 3 pubs that are walkable from the cottage. Two walkable at night, one only walkable in the daytime as it’s through the woods. The information book in the cottage has a full list of all the pubs, restaurants and take aways we recommend in the local area with postcodes and contact details. We have also provided maps to show how best to walk to the local pubs. Guests are very welcome to message us before the visit if any advance information is needed. The cottage is completely self contained. It has it's own front door - the key is provided to guests on arrival - and it's own back door onto the private patio and wider garden. Guests are free to access, explore and play in the whole of the garden. The cottage has it's own paved terrace over looking the veg garden (active spring and summer) with an outdoor table for 6 and parasol for eating outside with a view over the garden. There is a good sized BBQ available for guest use. There is a large trampoline, swings and several homemade 'dens' to discover as well as a treehouse with views that stretch for miles. Children are welcome to use and play on any of them with suitable parental supervision. In the summer months when the stream is low children are welcome to climb in and paddle / swim as long as they have parental supervision at all times. There are also boxes of wooden toys, soft toys, puzzles and games for children to use and also grown up board games too. Myself or my husband will be on hand during your visit. We may be at home on your arrival and come and say hello, if not we will pop over to make sure everything is ok once you have settled in. We will send you a message near to your visit to let you know how to get the key to the front door and there is a comprehensive book in the cottage on the coffee table, with full details about the house, local amenities and the surrounding area. Apart from exceptional circumstances we will be just next door should you need anything. It feels like you are right in the heart of the countryside here but not so remote you are disconnected from key amenities and fab places to visit. Walk just 2 minutes from the front door and you are in green fields and then beautiful woodland. There are footpaths galore to explore here and you can walk for miles and rarely have to cross a road. Or... Within a 30 minute car ride you can be in Bath, Bristol, Wells, Cheddar and Glastonbury to enjoy all of the fabulous places they have to offer. Visit the cities and towns and then come home to the seclusion, quiet and peace of the Somerset countryside! Having a car is definitely recommended here. However, there are buses that run to and from Bath and Bristol with stops within walking distance of the house that mostly run on an hourly timetable. There are also taxi services - booking in advance is recommended. The front of the house is on a country road with no pavement. Parking for cars is just off this road so guests should take care when leaving the house with small children and dogs. It isn't a main road and is generally very quiet but on week day mornings and evenings during commuting periods we do get cars and the occasional large farm vehicle passing. Please note that the main picture on the listing is from the back of the house. There are pictures of the house from the front on the listing. Do familiarise yourself with those before you come so you recognise the property on your arrival. We have free range chickens and we like to let them out to roam around the garden when we can. They make the most delicious eggs for your breakfast, but if you are bringing a dog that may chase them please let us know in advance and we will keep them in their pen for your visit. We are located between the villages of High Littleton and Temple Cloud. We are in a rural location so have no really close, walkable convenience stores. There are two small co-ops nearby in Paulton and Farrington Gurney- both are about an 8 minute drive away and close at 10pm. Our local Tesco store (not a superstore but big enough to do a good weekly shop) is a 12 minute drive away and open until 12pm Mon to Sat, 4pm on a Sunday. Please ask if there are specific requirements or questions related to our location before booking.
