Holmlea Cottage, charming, peaceful and welcoming.
Holmlea is a cosy cottage c. 1840, nestled in a quiet, pretty little road in the friendly village of Freuchie. With light, spacious, high-ceilinged rooms, Holmlea has an arty, vintage style, and is a comfortable and relaxing space. There is free parking in the road and car park (25m away). We are very safety conscious, using govt approved cleaning protocols and a day between guests. If your stay can't take place due to legal govt restrictions, you will receive a 100% refund. Homelea is full of original features, and we have added a beautiful cream Jotul stove with Delft tiling as a focal point for the living room, with sweet little insect illustrations. All of the artworks in the cottage are original, as we are an artistic family, and many are available for sale. Outside, although there is not a garden, there is a bench where you can sit out in the sun, and a back doorstep area where you can also take chairs and a table out for breakfast or in the evening when it is fair. There are also parks close by and a cricket ground. There is a guitar you can borrow if you didn't manage to bring your own! In the bathroom there is a new shower over a bath, and there is lovely antique furniture throughout. There is a new smart TV, so you can access Netflix, Freeview etc. Please note that although the cottage is all on one level, there is one step up at the front door and three at the back. We have aimed for the cottage to be homely, comfortable, attractive and the sort of place we would love to stay on holiday - we have added a lovely and very comfortable sofa bed in the living room, so we can now accommodate 4 guests - suitable for adults or older children. You will have full and private access to all of the cottage, plus a seating area outside the back door, (feel free to drag chairs and cushions out, even a table!) and the bench at the side of the cottage. There is a good sized grassy area at the side, which is a public access area, but is little used other than the neighbours access to their garage. We live fifteen minutes away, and will be available through Airbnb messaging, and will also provide our phone numbers in case you have any questions or problems, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Freuchie is a very friendly community, and there are local shops for groceries etc five minutes walk away. There is also a 24 hour garage with large Spar shop just outside Freuchie, which sells craft beers, and great hotels and pubs are also nearby - our guests are often adopted by the friendly villagers! The legendary Pillars of Hercules is a short drive away, a characterful cafe/restaurant with a very laid-back approach, delicious home baked food, and health store - lots of tables outside and in. The Lomond Hills are on your doorstep for amazing 360 degree views of Fife (you can walk, or drive up most of the way to a car park and viewing point), and the historic village of Falkland is a five minute drive away and well worth a visit, for its beautiful old buildings, famous tea rooms, gorgeous gift shops, and the fascinating and beautiful Falkland Palace and Gardens, which features one of the oldest tennis courts in the world. Outlander was filmed here. You will find that almost everyone you pass in Freuchie says hello! If you are driving, Freuchie is a fantastic base in central Fife - there are beautiful beaches at Elie, St Andrews and Tentsmuir and numerous other places, golf courses abound of course, including the Old Course itself at St Andrews, for sightseeing you can easily reach Edinburgh with many brilliant places to visit, and the Edinburgh and Fringe Festivals, Dundee with its famous new V & A museum and Discovery Point, St Andrews with its Castle and Cathedral and beautiful town, Dunfermline, the beautiful Culross, Perth and many other places of interest. All this is set amidst the gentle rolling hills of Fife with villages, garden centres, farm shops and museums scattered around. There are also many fantastic parks and places for children to visit, such as Cairnie Fruit Farm with an amazing play park and maze, Muddy Boots, Craigtoun Park with miniature train rides, trampolines and more! If you are using public transport, the nearest railway stations are at Ladybank and Markinch, both are a taxi drive away from Freuchie. There are good bus services in Freuchie, which will take you directly to St Andrews, Perth, Dundee, Edinburgh and many other places, and the bus stops on the High Street are only a few minutes walk from Holmlea. There are also local taxi services we can recommend. Freuchie is a great place to stay to access events such as St Andrews Golf Opens, Edinburgh Festival and many other events and festivals around the area. There is a new smart tv with Freeview and wi-fi connection. New for the chillier nights, a lovely fleecy dual control electric blanket - with this as well as the stove, warm central heating and cosy woollen blankets, you will be as warm as toast! Hot water bottles also available. You may need to reverse a short distance out of the road as there isn't much space to turn. If you are a dodgy reverser like me, you may want to park in the large, free car park 25 m from the front door - there is loads of space. We have upgraded our cleaning protocols to include new government approved methods, including full and thorough cleaning, sanitation of all surfaces including door-handles, switches etc, use of checklists and an extra day between guest stays. Cleaning products will be available for your own use, and we will ask you to place your used laundry into the striped laundry bags before leaving, . We take your health and safety, and our own, very seriously indeed, and will continue to review and improve protocols on a continuous basis. NB There is a 14 litre freezer compartment in the fridge. There is no dishwasher. There is a small coffee press/jug.
