Greenlands is a family holiday cottage with stunning 180 degree unspoilt views set in the heart of the South Hams in Devon. The cottage is truly secluded, set in enclosed gardens on a quiet country lane. And yet it is just ten minutes’ walk from the village pub and shop in Loddiswell and twenty minutes’ drive from the beautiful South Devon coast. Whether you’re after a summer break for the whole family or a romantic rural retreat for two, Greenlands is your perfect home from home. Large modern kitchen and dining room Sun room with views over the valley Living room with log burning stove, Freesat TV and DVD Free wi-fi Large enclosed garden Owners available via phone, text or (Hidden by Airbnb) for any questions or issues. 10 minutes' walk to village with pub, shops and local amenities 20 minutes' drive to the south Devon coast within easy reach of hundreds of attractions and entertainment for all weathers A ten minute stroll down the lane takes you into the quintessentially English village of Loddiswell. Loddiswell has managed to remain both unspoilt and lively. It has a well-stocked village shop selling all the essentials, papers and quality local food (the sausages from Aune Valley Meats in Loddiswell make an excellent breakfast!). It also rents out DVDs if you can’t find anything to your taste in the cottage. The cosy and friendly Loddiswell Inn opposite the shop serves excellent lunch time and evening meals on most days (you’ll need to book in peak season). The village also boasts a separate Post Office that doubles as a DIY and ‘odds and ends’ shop, a church, a primary school and a playground on the playing fields. If you want to explore the beautiful countryside around Loddiswell more fully, the ‘Pint to Pint’ book in the cottage details a 5 mile circular walk starting from the Loddiswell Inn and finishing just down the lane from the cottage. The route takes you down into the valley and along the River Avon for a while, past the old Loddiswell railway station (old photos of which can be found in the ‘Book of Loddiswell’ in the cottage). If you time it right, you can pause for a cream tea at the Avon Mill garden centre en route. The town of Kingsbridge is a 15 minute drive away and has a wide range of small local shops and restaurants as well as a supermarket, a leisure centre and tourist information centre. You can explore the Kingsbridge estuary by boat with regular departures from the quay – many of which stop off in Salcombe. Famous for its ice cream, Salcombe also boasts a wide variety of shops and restaurants and it will come as no surprise that sea food is a speciality! There is plenty to keep you entertained until the next tide, when you can get the boat back to Kingsbridge. This is an excellent way to see the town since parking can be difficult. Another town best accessed by boat is Dartmouth. Dartmouth castle is owned by English Heritage and has a long and fascinating history right up to the second world war. A 15 minute boat ride from the castle back up the river Dart takes you into the centre of Dartmouth, neatly avoiding the tricky parking and the many coach tours. One of the best known beaches in the area also has an interesting second world war story to tell. Slapton sands stretch from Torcross to Strete and were the venue for a test run of the D-Day landings. A Sherman tank now stands as a memorial to the men who lost their lives when a German U-boat attacked during the exercise. Slapton is now a much more peaceful affair offering well over a mile of clean beach and safe bathing. Contrary to the name, the beach is in fact of fine shingle rather than sand.
