This warm and cosy cottage is based on the edge of the quiet village of Tutshill (the childhood home of JK Rowling) on the English side of the Welsh border. It is the perfect location if you are looking to escape to the country and explore the beautiful Forest of Dean but still be close to amenities. Walking distance to Chepstow. *10% discount for +7 night stays* *To book 12 months ahead or more please use the Airbnb website rather than the app* Located within the grounds of our family home, yet self-contained, completely separate to the main house and private. The Coach House is very spacious with more than enough room for four people, a child or infant and up to 2 dogs. The cottage is full of history, originally built to house the coach and horses for Wirewoods Green Manor it still retains many original features including the stable stalls, large coach door and cobble stone entrance. There are stunning far reaching views towards the River Severn with many beautiful sunrises from the bedroom window. This warm, cosy cottage is finished and furnished to a high standard, crisp white cotton sheets, plump pillows and duvets adorn the beds, a large roll-top bath with shower and a fully equipped kitchen, espresso machine, wi-fi and wood burner make for a luxury stay. A large kitchen table and chairs provides plenty of room for family dining and entertainment. A welcome hamper along with all the essentials you may need such as a starter supply of tea, coffee, firewood (October - March) and all bedding and towels are provided. The Coach House also benefits from an enclosed patio area with a table and chairs and BBQ and access into our large paddock. There is direct access to The Gloucestershire Way footpath from the property. In the fields at the rear of the Coach House live our friendly sheep and goats. Conveniently located on the edge of the village of Tutshill, which benefits from a well stocked village shop and a fantastic independent butcher, cafe bar, children’s play park and recreational ground. A slightly further walk (about 20 minutes) takes you into Chepstow for a wider range of shops, bars and restaurants. We are also walking/cycling distance to the new Chepstow-Tintern greenways cycle trail (tunnel linking the two is closed during the winter month). This is a fantastic flat and level off-road path winding through the beautiful Wye Valley following the historic old railway line. Bike hire is available at the Chepstow end during peak season. Ideal walking and cycling base for exploring the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, South East Wales and slightly further afield are Bristol, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cardiff. Up to two dogs are very welcome. Bedroom 1 - King size bed Bedroom 2 - Twin beds Travel cot, high chair and a range of baby and children’s toys are available. The patio area is enclosed, however we cannot guarantee that it is dog or child proof. We recommend that children and dogs are supervised at all times. There is lockable bike storage. There is off-road parking outside the property for ONE car only. Guests have access to the whole cottage and private patio area. Guests are also free to use the paddock at the rear of the Coach House, if there are sheep in the paddock we ask you to keep dogs under close control. We live next door so will often be on hand if you need anything, however we are living busy family lives so have provided a key safe so you can let yourselves in at a time convenient to you. We love living in Tutshill, a pretty village on the English-Welsh borders. The local coffee shop, village stores, Butchers, park and church are all a short stroll away. The area is rich with castles (Chepstow Castle is walking distance), Raglan and Caldicot Castle are short drives away. Slightly further afield (but all within half hour drive) are Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Perrygrove Railway, Symonds Yat, plenty of opportunities for canoeing on the River Wye, Tintern Abbey and RSPB Newport Wetlands, Brecon Beacons National Park, The Wave (inland surf venue) and The Wild Place to name a few. There are also hundred of cycle paths, tracks and networks to explore throughout the Forest of Dean and several places where you can hire bikes. It is also a haven for walking having direct access to The Gloucestershire Way, a short distance from The Offas Dyke footpath and Welsh Costal path. As this is a rural area we recommend having a car to get around. However Chepstow train station is walkable (20 minute, steep walk) and there are a small number of buses operating between Tutshill, Chepstow, Bristol and Gloucester. Cancellations due to Covid-19 In circumstances where you need to cancel your stay due to a national lockdown or tier restrictions preventing you from travelling, we can offer you the option to defer your holiday to alternative dates or cancel your booking for a full refund. Please note the roll-top bath is quite high and maybe difficult to get into if you have mobility issues.
