Kerswell Farm Shepherd Huts - The Three Hares
The Three Hares hut is named after a mystical symbol of three hares chasing each other in a circle. It has its origins in 6thC China and is found in sites sacred to Buddhism, Islam and Christianity across Europe and Asia. The Three Hares are found on roof bosses in many Dartmoor churches including Widicombe-on-the Moor and may be a sign of patronage by the tin mining community which adopted the symbol. Its meaning is uncertain but often it associated with peace and tranquillity. Guests are greeted personally and conducted to the Three Hares Shepherd Hut. The South Hams is one of the most interesting areas for a holiday. It has a spectacular coastline and estuaries for walking, boating and swimming as well as beautiful countryside with picturesque villages, market towns, steam railways, historic buildings and sporting facilities. Kerswell Farm is a good centre for exploring on foot, by car, bicycle and small boat. The mainline station at Totnes is 15 minutes away and Exeter Airport 50 minutes away. Car parking next to hut. Kerswell Farm is a small Devonshire farm located in a beautiful and secluded part of the South Hams between Totnes and Dartmouth. The Kerswell Farm Shepherd Huts are located in Peters Meadow, a tranquil field of 1.5 acres enjoying spectacular views towards Dartmoor. There are two luxury Shepherd Huts situated at the top of the meadow. They are called The Cress Well after a nearby pond used once for growing water cress, and The Three Hares after an ancient symbol with its origins in early Buddhism and sometimes associated with Dartmoor tin miners. Kerswell Farm has a resident pair of hares which guests may be able to spot. The Shepherd Huts are spacious and luxuriously appointed with fitted double beds, shower rooms and well-equipped kitchen/dining areas. The huts enjoy mains water and electricity and a modern purpose-built drainage system. Outside each hut is a broad deck with a table and chairs, ideal for watching the changing skies in the west as the sun goes down. At Kerswell Farm Shepherd Huts we are dog friendly for well-behaved dogs who their own bed.
