Mountain Lodge Smrekovc (Slovene: Dom na Smrekovcu; 1,377 meters or 4,518 feet) is a mountain hostel on the southern slope of the Smrekovec Mountains (Smrekovško pogorje) in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. Mountain Lodge Smrekovc stands on a dormant volcano, more precisely on the highest part of the 15 km long mountain range of the Alpine world at the junction of Šaleška, Zgornja Savinjska and Zgornja Mežiška valley. The volcano was active underwather about 30 million years ago, so today there is no fear that smoke, ash and lava will be flushed from the top. However you can see specific stone base and the appearance of the mountain, which makes Smrekovec different from neighbouring peaks. For the fuzzy, rounded and fattened peak, there are numerous special plant and animal species that rank the Smrekovo mountain range as an important area of the natural heritage of Slovenia and Europe.
