Le Cottage du Port
The house is a pretty workers cottage on the towpath sandwiched between the canal basin and the river Loire on the Loire a Velo cycle track. It is picturesque, comfortable and quiet with the bakery, butcher and épicerie within walking distance. The cottage is about 60m2 and composes a living room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen overlooks the river Loire whilst the front garden looks out over the port of Marseilles les Aubigny on the canal lateral a la Loire. We have recently installed a washing machine and improved the wifi signal strength by installing a repeater. I have ticked cable TV but its really satellite. There are both French and English channels. There is a clothes line. The rate for two people assumes they both use the double bed. If two people wish to use both the double bed and the sofa bed in the living room, we charge an additional € 25 to cover our laundry and labor costs. Please let us know if you want this service as we have to prepare it during cleaning There's French and English television, full equipped kitchen, Wifi, bbq. Breakfast is not included but you will find the essentials in the fridge. You can buy fresh bread and pastries from the baker 50m away. Local tourist information and good maps for the region are provided for the duration of your stay. The cottage is available as a whole property. I live next door at No 5. Marseilles les Aubigny is a quiet backwater and grew up around the commercial canalside businesses. My own house was a "mercerie" . In its time the village was an important junction & port where the canal du Berry started towards Tours. In recent years the cycle track, the Loire a Velo has been constructed and goes right past the front door. You can cycle from here to the Atlantic or to Budapest in the other direction! Local shops, baker, butcher & epicerie, post office and hairdresser supply the essentials. Supermarkets are further afield, 4kms away. L'Auberge du Poids de Fer is a picturesque riverside restaurant within reasonable walking distance. Pizza van appears once a week on Thursday evenings. Public transport is very limited. There is an on demand minibus service, Ligne 18 to and from Nevers that needs booking the day before travel. 2 Euros per single trip. This is a quiet rural setting. You will need a car or bike to get around. The village has a good baker and a small grocery shop, tabac and bar combined. You can park your bikes inside the garden.
