Casa Boa Vista is a bright rural style self-catering apartment with private outdoor spaces of a backyard and a small porch with a view of the heart of Moinhos do Dão - Eco Quinta. A place for nature lovers and those who want to explore the Dão valley and the interior of Portugal. We have all the information you need for exploring Dão wine country, regional hiking trails, restaurants, historic towns nearby, mountains and the Atlantic. Guests can also enjoy our restaurant 3 nights a week. Boa Vista is an accommodation in granite stones with a large living quarter and open kitchen. It is restored in a rural style and has an added bedroom and a backdoor leading to a terrace and sunny private garden. The bathroom is 'en-suite'. The apartment can sleep four people with 2 in the bedroom and 2 on the fold our couch. We recommend this set up only to people who know each other well as the apartment is not big. For families with children this set up works best and parents and children can decide who sleeps where. Casa Boa Vista is part of Moinhos do Dão, an eco quinta tucked away in the green valley of the Dão river. We live in harmony with nature generating our own electricity and eating from our vegetable garden. A true 'back to nature' experience. As a guest at our quinta you have full access to our terrain. You can explore the vegetable garden, wild island in the middle of the Dão river, visit the old mill and relax in one of the many beautiful corners of our terrain. We or our volunteers are around most of the time to ask questions and provide information about things to do in the area. We are located in a mostly rural region of Portugal where the landscape is dominated by grapevines, small agricultural plots and forests. The property is at the bottom of the Dão valley about a 10 min drive (30 min walk) away from the nearby villages of Tibaldinho, Vila Garcia and Fagilde where you can find small shops, restaurants and cafe's. At a 20 min. drive the small town of Mangualde offers things like a daily market, postoffice, supermarket, cafe's and restaurants. We are a 30 min drive the historic town of Viseu for a real, be it small-city experience. You can get to and from us by a combination of train, bus and taxi. The nearest train station is in Mangualde, both Viseu and Mangualde have bus connections to all other parts of Portugal. To visit Mangualde or Viseu by public transport you can take a regional bus (30 min. walk from Moinhos do Dão) during weekdays in the morning, around lunch or at the end of the day. If you are interested in staying with us we can provide you with more detailed information about the bus and train hours and local taxi services. Our quinta is located off the beaten track and is only accessible with regular cars and small vans if you take it easy on the dirt road down into the valley. We are off the grid and generate our own electricity with water from the river and solar panels. The accommodations have no outlets but we do have a charging station by our kitchen area where guests can charge small electronic devices during sunlight hours. We usually have a crew working with us, run an artist in residency and have 4 guest spaces on our terrain so you will be meeting other people during your stay. 2 nights a week we cook for our guests and sit down together to enjoy the produce from our ecological garden and other regional foods. We also sell fresh produce from our garden to guest if the quantities allow us. Moinhos do Dão is a rustic place where natural- and cultural heritage blend into each other and people get to enjoy a simple life surrounded by nature.
